Re: PaGaLGuY.com brings CET-expert Patrick D'souza - Ask all your Maharashtra CET dou - 21-02-2008, 11:18 AM

hello sir,

i am currently 1.5 year exp and earning around 3.5L.

i have applied to welingkar pgdm..

sir want a personal opininon from you that should i go for pgdm of welingkar (considering its avg package is 6.5L and my salary can be atleast 5L after 2 years )if i get or should i try next year for better colleges?

is there lateral placements at welingkar.......if yes any stats regarding the same would be helpful?

what should i opt for MMS or pgdm of welingkar?

thanks

No difference absolutely between pg and mms courses wrt placements. Sies is a decent college and last date is 1st march ! However in your signature i see u have got calls frm sibm and other colleges ! My advice would be if u miss jbims thru cet ,think of sibm /scmhrd/siib over other colleges thru CET.

Vishal, u r having a decent salary and good growth in 2 yrs ! However after a certain time period to go up the organization ladder an MBA is a must ! Also considerin the huge demand for MBA every high , its better to take the plunge now.
Also Welingkar Avg Sal is currently 6.5 so by the time u pass out , just like ur current salary it should also increase to about 7.5 lakhs.

Between MMS & PG there is a huge trade off coz MMS is university course and private colleges are alleged to favour their own students (PGDBM) durin placements.

Hi Vishal,

This is the 1st year when Welingkar has had a seperate placements for Lateral. The criteria for Lateral placement could differ from company to company. Some companies prefer minimum 1 year wor ex for laterals others 2 years work ex for laterals. Also the salary during laterals are normally around 1 lpa more than normal placements.

Hi Vishal trying for next year purely depends on whether you are sure of getting into a better college next year. This you can only be certain if you have scored well in the other tests. But if you have not scored well in other tests then recommended you take up welingkar this year as the competition may only get tougher next year.

Both MMS and PG are similar. MMS would be preferred if you are planning to study abroad in the future (a lot of students nowadays do a 2nd MBA abroad after a few years of workex) where a Mumbai university degree would be better off than a PG from welingkar. Otherwise if this is your last place of study then it does not make a difference except that welingkar is known to show bias towards PG students.

Anyway the decision will come only if you get admission in both .. So dont worry about it now and try to get admission in the best college you can.
