Hey Guys am Bijay, the Software Architect at PaGaLGuY.

I need your Suggestion and feedback to improve this Portal (in its entirety)

Basically we want to serve all our members with whatever services they want...

We are planning to make the website even better for you where you will have a great time and can avail of all your Web services requirements, information, Solve Problems, make friends, and more..

I am starting this new Thread so that I can personally follow the whole discussion from start..

Please advise me a on few things to start with...

  1. Is there any thing in the website which annoys you.. Any place where the application doesn't provide you with expected or required information or results in terms of functionality....
  2. What other services or functionality do you think would be great but is not currently there in the website
  3. What you really expect from PG.com when you
  1. join PG for the first time.
  2. are a member of PG for a significant amount of time and have been a regular here, and still aren't getting what you wished for
  3. if you joined way back, have been a regular and you think something is missing which would be a great thing..

Nice initiative Bijay to keep a track on technical issues!

Some of the issues which have been pending from a long time, though majority are cosmetical changes not much related to the functionality:

1.
Affected Users: Mahip , Neo2000
Issue: When you go to the profile, the rank bulbs are not seen. Nor does the "Moderator" rank appear like the other moderators profile. We also need this -> http://www.pagalguy.com/600677-post901.html
Probable Fix: A new group called "Sectional Moderators" was created for us. All this might be related to some setting of that group.

Affected Users: Many users including Mahip.
Issue: When we try to change our signature in UserCP it always gives an error:
"Your signature can not be longer than 700 characters including BBCode markup."
Even if I write nothing in my signature, it does not allow to update it.

Affected Users: Many like BUGS BUNNY , zephyr..
Issue: No Avatar is displayed. Can't upload any image.
4.

Issue: To create a new B school group and provide rank. Check posts here:

I too suffer from this, and need it fixed ASAP. Some of the links in my siggy have changed, and unfortunately I'm unable to change it.

Are you sure this isn't a policy issue? Unless Allwin is facing somw trouble in creating another rank, coz usually students have to head over to Allwin to get new ranks.

This I discussed with Subbu... Bschoolers have a habit of going back on their words, and to avoid that by the Edit function, it has been removed.

Issue: When Viewing a post via the permalink option, the page in the permalink is correct, but the post is absent. The page number is taken using the first post first view option, and permalink takes you to that page. But for us, the view is upside down, and the relevant post is not seen.

Probable Fix: It would make sense to design the permalink by post number only, not posting page number, which is not fixed for different view options.

i hv been pissed with this fr months..allwin says he does nt hv time so he asked zeeshan..bt thn evn he didnt hv time..now i hv spoken to rohit n he says he cant do it bt will ask apurv to do it aap..nw this is really bugging... n harshal..plsss...let it get done this time!!

I agree , I used to send permalinks to a particular post thru internal messenger here at gim , but people ended up confused , and I had to spend a lot of time, telling them what to look for ..

When I click 'Post reply' on any thread, there is a debugging artifact just before the old posts are displayed. This is under the 'Topic Review' section. There is a string aaaaaaaa displayed after the heading, probably left after someone tested the code.

This primarily seems to be an issue whenever post highlights are listed. So even in a search, where threads are supposed to be listed, there the same issue occurs. Seems the code where the listing algoritm is written, that string of 'a's is inserted. Locating and deleting it is what needs to be done.

I remember GNRSwa (in his tech days before Bijay came along) saying on SB that it improved SB functionality by 50% by just removing the timestamp...

But these days everyone is finding it difficult... SB is becoming very slow, and shouts take some delay in coming on display after entering....

This causes some popup blockers and firewalls to block opening the actual page.
 Probable Fix: It must be that the linked banner is going through the admanager instead of bypassing it due to some error in the linking of the actual flash file... the working file must be edited to remove this error.

That is how it is supposed to be for some administrative reasons...

for example when you search in google the results aren't actually direct link to the real site it too passes through the Google's site. The reason is that this is how you can track the clicks which is useful for further analysis....

This though need some attention...
It doesn't popup a new window so there is no reason why a popup blocker should block it...

If you can reproduce the bug and present me the exact steps taken, it'll be a great help.

Issue/Enhancement: The Quick Reply icon doesn't have the 'quote post' option ticked. Since many users, especially n00bs, use this option, and they forget to quote the post, we get posts like these:

Also, in my case, the very options remain unticked. And unchangeable. And the 'show signature' option remains changeable and ticked.
 Probable Fix: Make the 'quote post' option ticked by default. n00bs will anyway need guidance, and hence will get the answers they want, but others will atleast be able to see whose is the post replied to.

The Calendar for 2007 doesn't seem to work. Clicked on January 2007, but still December 2006 shows up!!

Hi Rungss,
Lately I have started using Firefox 2.01 something , I admit its really fast , but the problem is that on pg it works really funny , the advertisement on the right hand pane overlaps the smileys and its transparent also , I can see teh smileys but I cant click on them , and when I sign off which is normally with a regards shailesh , it doesnt come the way it was typed ... I mean there was a space and a proper way in which I had typed , but it comes garbled .. any suggestions from the Firefox advocates

This I have posted using I.E 7 , ronticus suggested that the problem could be in the page margin being in an absolute figure rather than a %
