Hi,

I am doing this course - PGCHRM from XLRI,
I have started the thread to help everyone make the decision whether it is worth it or not. There was no such thread when i had to take this decision and i understand how difficult it can be with no information.

About this course. it is a backbreaking effort to do it with your office. You have to be really really committed to it to make it through. Though we have classes only twice a week but the assignments, quizzes, reading and other stuff keep u praying for 30 hrs in a day

so far we have completed 2 courses with the end terms. Profs and coordinators are very helpful and easily contactable.

Lecs are through video conferencing and really informative.

let me know if u have queries, i will answer them for sure in some day.

Hi Sunayna,

Hope you are doing great!

I am planning to go for satellite based HR courses from branded institute. There are courses at XLRI, IIM C & L. I have 6 years of experience in HR wanted to pursue further in core HR.

I have gone through the course details of XLRI's PGCHRM and IIM C's EPHRM. IIM C has given more detailed syllabus and seems much modern as compare to XLRI. Would you help to sort out the difference?

Also, there are few queries on PGCHRM:

1. Does this course focus on core HR or it more focuses on IR, Labour, Trade Unions?(I am working and would like to work in core HR only)
2. Does this course covers the development of basic competencies required for HR other than functional skills?
3. How about market value, demand? Course fee is more than 2 lakhs!

I hope you would take out some time and help me in this crucial decision.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Manish

Hi Sunayna,

Thanks for you initiative in helping others to make a decision on enrolling for PGCHRM program. I had a good interview last week for the PGCHRM Dec- 2010 course, am hoping for a positive response.

I would want to know a couple of things from you:

1) I read in one of the posts that this course is demanding and one needs to dedicate 3 hrs every day for studying. It is not practical for a working professional to dedicate 3 hrs everyday on weekdays. Please let me know if one can manage to balance hectic work life with the demands of this course.

2) I am also thinking of changing my job for a more lucrative offer. A lucrative offer would come with extra working hours and loads of additional reponsibility. In my current company I have a certain flexibility in terms of working hours, no. of leaves etc and it will be easier to dedicate myself for the course if I continue to work in my current co. But then there are other factors bcoz of which i want to take up a more lucrative job - Basically I am little confused now - Can you please let me know if one is required to leave office early or take regular leaves for completing the course or if one can do this course with hectic work schedule.

Awaiting your opinion,

Thanks,
Raghu

it is very hectic. it really is. Sometimes i feel that i am studying more than i did for BMS. They really make u slog.
Get into it if u really want to do it. There are 2 drop outs from the 1st sem that i know of. so trust me when i tell u that it is gonna make u burn the midnight oil for sure. Ensure ur office, mainly ur boss is comfy with letting u go on the weekday for the course.
There are regular tests, quizzes, projects and end terms exams. every week there is something happening. plus the worst thing is that the end term exams are on sunday mornings. u really have to make time to study for this course and i repeat, get into it if u really want to do it. i hope this helps u make ur decision
Good luck

Thanks Sunayna 😃 I have put my job changing plan on-hold now, i feel that i will be able to give quality time for this course if i continue with my job.

I am eagerly awaiting for the result announcement on 22-Oct-10.

Hi

I am aspiring to do PGCHRM from XLRI. I contacted Reliance and Hughes but received conflicting information on when the next admission/course commencement would be. Would anybody here have the information regarding the next batch? I will be doing this from bangalore.

Thanks in anticipation!

Hi Sajitha, i think it is because both the courses are differently held.. I am doing it from Hughes. check the course syllabus and timings etc to select one.

Ah...thanks Hopeful!

I did talk to the Hughes guys and they said the next one will start in June. What did you think of the way Hughes is conducting it. Reliance says theirs is the real Virtual class experience and Hughes just provides a PC and head phone. Can you please your PGCHRM experience?

Thanks!

Hi,

Please visit - www.xlri.ac.in/satellite and then 'register for next admission'. When the dates for next admission are announced then either Hughes or Reliance Web World B'lore in-charge will call you, requesting you to apply.

I guess the next batch will start by mid of 2011 through Hughes.

Raghu
