Hi All

First of all Congratulations to all the call getters. Now that u have crossed successfully the first hurdle of the selection process, lets gear for the second and final one.
This thread has been opened exclusively for XL call getters (both BM and PMIR) who need some guidance raegarding interview preparation for XL. I along with my batchmates will be available to help u out as we have been for XAT. Though we can't change the end result but we can try and help u to make the best use of available opportunity.
All the Best

Hi divya,
A friend of mine has been shortlisted for the interviews for the PM&IR; course. Can you throw some light on the interview procedures in all totality - things like what kind of stuff he needs to prepare (in the limited time available), how last years interviews were, what kind of profiles are expected to get through. He's a guy who's good in Finance and Economics - and he's with a MNC in chennai for the past 2 years and odd.

Thanks in advance...

No yaar

I haven't heard of any such precedent in XLRI regarding second round of shortlisting. After interviews, there is a waitlist but not at the time of shortlists

so divya
ur basically saying all my dreams of getting into xlri are over and out!
ok now that u know my score
do u think i stand a chance in ximb,gim,bim.

Firstly he should know everythg abt his workex. Ask him to know abt current affairs like budget etc(if budget ahs come by that time).

Typically in PM&IR; interviews, focus is on ur interest in HR. Ask him to be prepared to justify his stand of shifting from fin/eco to HR. Also knowing abt some HR funda like functions that HR performs in an organization is important. Moreso when he has work ex.

Sometimes (more often than BM), PMIR undergoes stress interviews. the interviewers try to psyche u out by refuting nythg u say and not even letting u speak. It is important to maintain cool in such a scenario.

Profiles vary from engineering to finance, eco, humanities etc. Revert back in case of some specific query

any idea about the dates?

Hi.
I am a final year engineering student at IIIT Allahabad. I wanted to know what sort of questions should I expect at the interview; coming from an engineering background(Comp. Sci.) are there any special things I should read up, also do they ask questions from the domain one belongs to or are there general sort of questions. Also can you please help with the best sort of answer to the question: "Why do an MBA?"

Thanks in advance

if u are asking abt the interview dates ... it will generally start around feb 24-26 and go on till march 6-8 ... again its random ... u will be intimated ...

Dont worry ... u will rarely questioned on microprocessors, theoritical computing, AI, Neural networks, communication theory etc ... XLRI is typically an attitude accessing interview were questions are predominantly from ...

1. Personal self (which kickstarts(kickass ... ) ur i/v with "Tell US abt Urself" .... " why MBA ?" , "strengths and weaknessses" and all possible global gas kinda questions where all u need to is talk with no obvious logical errors ....

2. Statistics : XLRI has some super statisticians in campus who frequently conduct interviews ... u can get some good googlies from STATS ..

3. GK .... Anything under the sun depending on the mood of the interviewer ...

4. The interviews atleast the ones after feb end will have questions from BUDGET ... Tat shit get published in the wrong time

Also be prepared with some MBA related questions on marketing ,fin , economics(GDP, BOP etc...)

ONE LAST ADVICE : "BE confident and SPEAK with Conviction "

ALL THE BEST

cheers

Already relpied on the other thread. I repeat
Usually XL does not entertain requests for changing the date. U can ask with the reason if such a situation arises. Yes, Delhi will be a center for interviews
Interviews are held in
New delhi
Mumbai
Chennai
Jamshedpur

Cheers

JK

PS : reskeduling in not generally permitted ... but stilll ... its too late to confuse .... hope for the best 😃

Ya, if you have the interview dates for IITB, inform XLRI's admission office immediately ststing your problem. The people here are very understanding and shud accomodate you. Send a copy of your XAT scorecard and follow up thru a call to the admission office.
As for ur 2nd querry, man, the largest no. of people who made it last year had their interview in Delhi. So relax, the venue is most likely Indian Habitat Centre in Lodhi Road.

@rthathoo
The questions in the interview would greatly depend on your background and work-experience. Also, last year the type of interviews variedly greatly depending on the panel members. you can surely expect some questions like why do an MBA ? may be some details on what specialisation you are keen on ? your views on some current affairs issues, the budget, Indian economy etc. may also be some topics that can be touched upon during the interview. It would help you to follow daily happenings closely through newspapers. Also, if you are a fresher you might just be quizzed on some subjects or arbit questions frm engineering. Last year my interview questions (not at XL but at an IIM) varied from What is Entropy, to operations research and impedance of transmission line. ... And now about "why take up MBA as a career ? " which i guess appears to be the toughest of them all... since you have ample time, get in touch with some MBAs you know, what kinda stuff they do? Discussions with some current students would help you frame your customised answer. I haven't really come across a perfect answer for this one so far and I think the answer has to be ur own customised version. You may also try and find the XLRI interview thread for the last year, which could be a great resource.

hi

can u guys throw light on how to perform in a group interview ?

and also the FAQs ...............

thanks in advance .............

dear seniors..
i got a call from bm..me a fresher
plz throw some light on the procedure of selection...if not gd then how many interviews and all?
also what is the ratio of work-ex to freshers.
on a lighter note howz the place jamshedpur..howz life in college???

These are the "subjects" which i'd list from that msg:
1. Work-Ex : Yeah. He can speak in length.
2. Current Affairs : He's our Guru 😃 He can get into statistical and fugurative details reg what's happening around.
3. Shift of Interest : Isnt there any profile where these can go together - finance/economics and HR. Finance firms - dont they recruit PM&IR; ppl from XLRI. I mean - is this even a shift of interest. He's a guy who's interested in Finance/Economics (actively involved in shares etc and has done 2 NSE certifications too). But he was always interested in HR too - so this is not a shift as far as he's concerned. Can you please elaborate on this - will the panel be specific?!?!?
4. HR Funda - yeah!!! this is what he's diggin his head into, right now 😃 assignment no:1 for him this one :)
5. Stress Interviews - yeah!!! Point taken. Thanks a lot on this one - he needs to work on this 😃 Gets hyped up a bit too soon 😃 Good that we came to know early!!!

What abt acads - any queries reg that last time??? Extra currics?!?!?

You havent gone too much into the interviews as such, apart from "they'll be stress interviews". Considering the fact that XLRI has only interviews (yeah, the essay's there) and no GDs (am i right??!!) - PI is make or break. How long are these, how widespread will be the topics (apart from the ones u've mentioned) - will they go anywhere outside HR functions and general mgmt stuff. I know it all depends on the panel - but arent we all trying to speculate what they'll do ;)

thanks a lot for all the info...

expecting more :)

Iday

two more doubts...
#what should freshers prepare for..

#does the essay we wrote come into play anywhere?
