XLRI BM INTERVIEW EXPERIENCE
WAT - If great entrepreneurs are not MBAs than why are we doing MBA?
GD on the same topic.Â
Discussion was mostly on that MBA is not a pre-requisite to become an entrepreneur but it definitely helps. And MBA program also enables one to become good managers.Â
PI
What do you do at work?
Talked about my work at Akamai. Talked about what Akamai does.Â
If you have a company of 100 employees which is not getting much projects, how would you go about cost cutting?
I told about how I would try to reduce not so important expenses like pantry free food and lunch and dinner. That would be 1% of employees salary. (Asked to show how did I arrive at that number) I showed it to them but the percentage came out to be 4% after solving the guesstimate. I told I did a rough calculation.Â
Then I told about skill development program so that employees can get other projects. That would be a one time  cost of 13% of salary.
They asked me I am saving 4% but spending 13% to which I told that 4% is monthly savings and 13% is a one time expense to add value to employees.Â
Then I told that last resort would be to let go the employees.Â
They asked me how would I know how many employees to fire. I told looking at the net profit and loss and revenue and expenses. And also by making a case wherein i am left with X employees. Would the company do better or worse.Â
After arriving at a number to fire, I would see the business that is not doing good or the low performing employees.Â
Then they asked what should the main focus of a B school. I told them that main focus should be to develop original thinkers and innovative minds.Â
Should start at school level itself but can be utilized by B schools further.Â
I told them that rather than people focussing on ROI and Placement focus should be on the type of course and quality.Â
They asked me if B-Schools should stop providing placements.Â
I told that this happens in Western Countries like USA and the UK. There are job fairs but no placements. Yet to happen in India.Â
That way aspirants would focus on quality of teaching and value addition.Â
They asked what other changes a B school can do to make itself better.Â
I told about better industry integration.Â
Providing Niche courses and electives.Â
Providing specialized courses that would enable a person to get into techno-functional roles too. (as tech is important too)
Then Asked about types of innovation.
I told that I donât know. I tried explaining with examples. Something that comes out a blue like the wheel. Or something that is made better from previous iteration
But then they asked me about how can I answer this in context of team and other teams.Â
I told innovation can be different for different teams.Â
Waterfall model, agile models are innovations that are suited for different teams.Â
Asked about what is another types of model?
Told clean room model.
Another guy asked if I can name a model which is completely opposite to waterfall. I told that I donât know.Â
Then they asked if there is something else that I want to tell.Â
Told about my blogging website and how i have hired content writers.Â
Asked me to take a candy and leave.

WAT/GD topic - success comes before work in dictionary, can it be considered the case in real life as well?
10 minutes for WAT
25 minutes for GD
GD:
Group of 9 out of which 2 were absent. Pretty decent GD, everyone was on the same wavelength stating how work does take precedence over success and everyone got fair chance to speak. I pitched in a little late but stated decent points to support my argument.
PI:
Panel of 3 members, 1 Lady and 2 Gentlemen all of them very welcoming. They asked me questions related to work, my role, companyâs business, why I switched job, competitors, how can I bring value to HR being from CSE background. I answered all the questions but they kept on grilling me and I felt they werenât convinced with my answers. They grilled me on why colleges offer moral certificates but I finally managed to answer the answer they were expecting after they dropped in a couple of hints. After 25 minutes of grilling on these topics they told me they are done and asked me to take a toffee.

(1)Where do you work ?
Answered it with some cross questions coming up and was also asked question on various oil companies but was not able
To answer a question on total volume of oil wells reliance owns and told them my work in oil sector is more pertaining to electrical work and designing ⌠To which they didnât drill much
- acads questions
First was why only did I have consolidated marksheets but explained to them the reason and how to get all the transcripts on time was not possible keeping in mind the slow administrative process , then they asked me the subject I was taught which I mentioned .Then some question on my research paper on analytics and general question on machine learning where I answered most except one on the assumptions of logistic regression ( here I was able to answer only some of them and fumbled a bit ) then a question on the use analytics in hr, which I was able to answer it to the point and no question was raised on the solution. Further the query was raised why not analytics if so much interested in it , was able to defend it through my tedx experience and interaction with one of our speakers, founder of infeedoâŚ
Ethical question
The last question was on a situation where a an employee wants to resign due to other employees behaviour ( altough he is very good at his work and plays an important role but has nagging attitude )
Told them will identify all the stakeholders , and have a counseling session with the the nagging employess and tell him how his behaviours could be detrimental in his promotions and appraisal. If he still doesnât improve then look for a replacement by taking in inputs from project manager⌠and for long term to include employee to employee relation as a benchmark to avoid such issues in future , altough with each solutions he started adding more constraints , at end he asked me what is more important to me people or project to which I replied project .
And then they asked me to leave
