No iron can pierce the heart with such force as a period put just at the right place. -Isaac Babel, Russian journalist (1894-1940)

Problem, contains no capitalization at all-definitely a problem in writing! Capitalize wherever required.

Problem

when I first saw the black hills on january 2, 1995, i was shocked by their beauty. we had just spent new year's day in sioux falls, south dakota, and had headed west toward our home in denver, colorado. as we traveled along interstate 90, i could see the black hills rising slightly in the distance. after driving through the badlands and stopping at wall drug in wall, south dakota, the evergreen - covered hills broke the barren monotony of the landscape. my oldest daughter said, "dad, look! there's something that's not all white." we saw mount rushmore and custer state park, the home of the largest herd of buffalo in north america. we also drove the treacherous spearfi sh canyon road. fortunately, our jeep cherokee had no trouble with the ice and snow on the winding road. we were unable to see needles national park because the needles highway was snowed shut. winter may not be the best time to see these sights, but we enjoyed them nonetheless.

A word of caution about using exclamation points to show strong feeling: Exclamation points are a little bit like salt on food. Most people like a little bit. Nobody likes too much.

Rules for Using Question Marks and Exclamation Points:

Use a question mark after a word or group of words that asks a question, even if it is not a complete sentence.

Examples:

What did you do last night?

Will you put out the trash?

Okay?

May we go to the movies after we've finished our homework?

Are we?

Use an exclamation point after a sentence that expresses strong feeling.

Examples:

Look out for that car!

I just can't stand the smell in here!

Use an exclamation point after an interjection-a word or phrase expressing strong feeling-when it is written as a single sentence.

Examples:

Doggone it!

Yikes!

Use an exclamation point after a sentence that begins with a question word but doesn't ask a question.

Examples:

What a dunce I am!

How marvelous of you to come!

Topic : More and more farmers and food manufacturers are genetically modifying their crops to reduce susceptibility to disease, improve flavor, and reduce costs. Do you think genetically modifying foods is a good idea? Why or why not? Use specific reasons and examples to support your position.

My write up:

Few decades ago, genetically modifying plants and animals was a dream, but today it is a reality. With the advancement of science and technology it is now possible to alter the genes and thus the DNA of an organism. On the positive side it can be very beneficial, as we can eradicate all the current flaws in the genetic structure of that organism, like genetically modified plants can yield more fruits and vegetables, because of which markets will have abundant supply resulting in low prices for the consumers, but on the contrary it can also have many adverse effects.

The current scenario is that, genetically modified crops are profit driven rather than consumer driven. Farmers tend modify their crops in such a way that modified ones are less susceptible to diseases, has improved flavor etc. to earn higher profits. They are not really aware about the future prospects of these modifications, as to what effect they will have on the consumers.

I believe if there's a need to genetically modify the crops, the whole process should be highly controlled and taken care of, each and every possibility i.e whether good or bad , should be thoroughly analysed, before implementing anything. Proper departments should be there to keep a check on the quality control of the modification.

In the end I would like to conclude that modifications should only be done, when immensely required. They should always be aimed at becoming a boon for the population rather than a curse.

Use of the word "May"

Permisssion....... May I come in, sir ? You may leave now.

Topic: The inventor and statesman Benjamin Franklin said, "Money never made a man happy yet, nor will it. There is nothing in its nature to produce happiness." Do you agree with this statement? Why or why not?

My write up:

Benjamin Franklin was one of the greatest figures in history and I have a great deal of respect for this personality. But with due respect I don't agree with his claim that, "Money never made a man happy yet, nor will it. There is nothing in its nature to produce happiness." I agree that money in and of itself does not make a person happy, but I believe that money can help provide one thing that is essential to happiness, good health.

While money can do nothing in making us less susceptible to diseases and daily life injuries, but it can surely give us access to good health care and medical facilities. For example, in the third-world countries infant mortality rates are way higher than developed countries, just because of lack of modern medical facilities. Good medical facilities are almost impossible to afford for poor people, who have no other option except to see their children suffer.

Another important thing that money can do is to give us a healthy and hygienic place to live in. Majority of the poor people live in slums and unhygienic places which make them more vulnerable to diseases. Having just money may not give you happiness, but it surely goes a long way toward keeping you healthy. And as they say, if you haven't got your health, you haven't got anything.

Can somebody explain the difference in usage of little and a little?

Punctuate
