Yuppie! Sere also means dry or parched, as in "the old oak, bald and sere"
mull: to think over something, to warm slowly (as in mulled wine)
hull: the shell or outer cover, usually used for a ship
cull: to reduce the numbers according to some specific rule (cull the unfit)
lull: the calm before a storm (related word, lullaby, so easy to remember!)
null: nada, zilch, zero, nothingness, nonentity

Converse: To talk
Stern: Rear of a ship
Pitch: To rock up and down violently (as in a ship or plane pitching in a storm) / tone of a musical note (as in a high-pitched voice) / place where a sport is conducted (as in cricket pitch) / black tar-like substance (as in a road covered with pitch) / black as night (as in pitch darkness) / to throw (as in pitch a baseball, pitchfork).... :)
