I am interested to pursue distance learning mba and my friends has suggested sikkim manipal university because the student already study there gives good feedback & its administration is very good as they are very particular about arranging lectures & exams on time and also they provide the degree on time unlike others who keeps you waiting for one-two years even after completion of course. I agree with that as I too visited its centre 2-3 times and they seems answerable and helpful and they let me attend 2-3 demo lectures on weekend which was quite good.

But I am concerned if it is UGC approved or not. Can someone tell me if Sikkim Manipal is a genuine university. I hope it isn't fake. Is it really approved by UGC? It has been confirmed that it is DEC approved as I found its name in DEC website, but its not AICTE approved. Now Sikkim Manipal University claim to be UGC approved but then when I checked UGC website I couldn't found its name anywhere under the list of ugc approved universities but in one page I was surprised to see that UGC has put the name of Sikkim manipal university in the public notice about private universities. Why have the UGC put its name under public notice under which they mentioned the following :

"It has come to the notice of the University Grants Commission that some of the State Private Universities have affiliated colleges and started off-campus centre(s) in violation of the UGC (Establishment of and Maintenance of Standards in Private Universities) Regulation, 2003 and against the judgment of Honble Supreme Court in case of Prof. Yash Pal & Others vs. State of Chhattisgarh & Others. Some of these Universities are running these Centres on franchising basis also which is not allowed."

dear friend, think thousand times before investing your or your parents hard-earned money in mba programs. a couple of months ago there was a report in economist that MBAs are worthless. an mba is essentially an american invention and now they are moving away from it! i am not telling you don't join but introspect before you leap, just don't blindly ape the west and follow the herd. anyway - best of luck for whatever you wanna do.

Thanks Rajutherobber, Thanks for your reply. But can you or someone else pls answer whether sikkim manipal is actually ugc approved or not and why have the ugc put its name under public notice about private universities. Do sikkim manipal has any value in the job market?

here mba means 20+ schools. if you don't make it to top 20 then it becomes dicey. i can tell many horror stories of my friends who did their mba from supposedly a grade institutes but not in top 20 and were forced to go for door-to-door selling.

oh thank god it made me little introspective actually you didnt mention the 20+ thing and blatantly stated that some article mentioned MBA being worthless so got confused i myself have a neighbourhood friend who did his mba from the type of b schools mentioned here and now works in a mcdonalds selling burgers

Hey puys,

I want to somehow get a MBA Tag against my name. The only reason for this for me to be a Post Graduate. Frankly I dont care about the Institute, its reputation or anything like that. I just want to have a Masters Degree, so that I will be eligible to persue my Phd. I already have a very good job and I am looking at other means of improving my carrer skills. Can you suggest me the easiest university to get an MBA from. And for clarification sake it needs to be by Distance Learning Mode.

I will be really gratefull if someone throws some info on this.

For now I am thinking in these lines.
1)IGNOU...
2)SMU--> Looks cool with classes on IPAD. Hidden motive My dream of buying a IPad will get fulfilled.
3)Annmalai University -??? No clue... Just a thought.

hi, i wanted to pursue Masters in some filed after completing one graduation course from SMU but stopped myself since i read the article too.. and the amazing part is they reduced their fee post the article in newspaper which made me worry about their credentials. why dont you try Vinayaka mission university since it is a govt recognised just like IGNOU. I dont have any other in my mind.. Everybody knows tht smu does distance n everybody has the same degree..
