Quick overview into my bio:
Qualification - B.E. (E&C;) - M.S. Ramaiah, MBA (Marketing) - PES School of Management (Both in Bangalore)
Work Ex - 7 years (3 years in sales, 3 years in software alliance management and 1 year in business partner marketing)
GMAT - Not taken
Role - Currently working in a marketing role in IBM India.
I'm confused and have been for quite some time. Two goals that I want to pursue are - 1) Work in Singapore (not looking at any other location), because I love the place and proximity from India and 2) Want to pursue an international degree abroad.
I completed MBA soon after graduation and therefore did the course without any work exp. Finished MBA, got placed through campus and have been working for the last years.
My dilemma - Whether it makes sense to pursue a one year international MBA from Singapore or any other place, which is also affordable (15 - 20 Lakhs) all over again or whether I should pursue a more specialised degree in Marketing or Consulting.
I want to continue with my role in Marketing or transition to consulting, but strongly feel that the lack of doing a degree from a reputed B-School is holding me back. This could just be a feeling, but I surely want to look at increasing my earning potential as well. I know that the whole growth story is now in India, but badly aspire to work and make a good career abroad as well. Initially was thinking of SP Jains GMBA programme, but not a lot of great reviews.
Also, do you think doing an executive education programme (1 -2 month) from a school like INSEAD would rather make sense?
Please let me know your thoughts. Others also kindly pour in your suggestions.

The Business India Magazine in its India's Best B Schools issue dated October 2011 & October 2010 has rated the Institute as an A+ Grade Institution.

Your apprehension that your business school will be unrecognized is not unfounded, I don't live in India, but in the international context, this MBA would not be as competitive as you'd hope it to be. I'd say that your strengths definitely lies in your work experience and the fact that you work in IBM.

What industry to you want to work in in Singapore? If you want a job in the government sector, the surest way to go about it is a degree from the local universities here - NUS, NTU, SMU, or the other international institution that's recognized by the Singaporean government -

If you want to work in a private company, you'd be glad to know that MBAs gotten in the local universities are highly reputable and recognized.
I completed MBA soon after graduation and therefore did the course without any work exp. Finished MBA, got placed through campus and have been working for the last years.
You institute also didn't require that you take any GMAT exams, for all the top business schools, this is the most basic pre-requisite, alongside interviews and stringent selection process.
My dilemma - Whether it makes sense to pursue a one year international MBA from Singapore or any other place, which is also affordable (15 - 20 Lakhs) all over again or whether I should pursue a more specialised degree in Marketing or Consulting.
I want to continue with my role in Marketing or transition to consulting, but strongly feel that the lack of doing a degree from a reputed B-School is holding me back.
Your feelings are actually correct - and it's even more so if you wish to work in Singapore - your post graduate degree from M S Ramaiah simply would not hold up against the scores of prestigious MBA graduates here. If you're looking to secure a managerial or top executive position in an MNC or government organisation, the name and title of your MBA matters to a significant extent.
Also, do you think doing an executive education programme (1 -2 month) from a school like INSEAD would rather make sense?
INSEAD is one of the highest ranking international business school - an EMBA programme from the institute would be a very good choice. But their admission criteria is quite steep, and so is their tuition fees -
"Participants in our current class have an average of 12 years work experience, with the range being between seven to 18 and at least three years management of teams and/or projects."

My advice to you would be to try out for the Singaporean Universities first - the tuition fees are a little lower, the quality and reputation of the program is very high, there are a lot of scholarships that you can apply for - check here, and most of the graduates from local universities enjoy a fast track career and high paying position in governmental organisations. They fit your requirements of getting an international education while increasing your prospect of working in Singapore.

Just a correction - I completed MBA from PES School of Management in Bangalore, while I completed the engineering degree in electronics from MS Ramaiah.
After much thought, I've decided to shelve my plans to pursue a second MBA degree for the time-being. Primarily due to financial reasons and the opportunity cost involved.
While I am continuing with my work at IBM, I'm definitely trying to explore other degrees or certification programs (not MBA), in universities abroad that can help me to move ahead.
Few things are clear - I want to continue in the Marketing function, pursue in the Information Technology industry and gain some international experience - either in Singapore or Dubai.
Besides the MBA, are you aware of any short term programs, that I could pursue from universities in Singapore in this regard? I can only think of a six month to 1 year time frame, but need to be really sure that it would add value to my resume and help me achieve my goals.

After much thought, I've decided to shelve my plans to pursue a second MBA degree for the time-being. Primarily due to financial reasons and the opportunity cost involved.
If you're confident that you'd be able perform outstandingly in the program, there are scholarships in Singapore that essentially make your education free and there are no bonds attached - 1) NUS MBA Dean's Award, 2) Asian Development Bank - Japan Scholarship, 3) NTU-MBA Scholarship , etc
While I am continuing with my work at IBM, I'm definitely trying to explore other degrees or certification programs (not MBA), in universities abroad that can help me to move ahead.
That's a practical choice too.
