Hi Sage,
Looks like with your score you should get a rank in the top 700 (going by the analysis given by TIME). Also, you got a good academic record. That should fetch you a call for GD/PI from VGSOM. Last year, I had a rank of 763, and got a call from VGSOM, which I managed to convert.

Yes, considering your score and academic record you do stand a very good chance. Once called for an interview, each one has to perform to the best of his/her ability. If you have a good academic record then that would surely be to your advantage. The scehdule for the interviews will be announced soon.
I think that as a policy most students in the MBA in IITs are engineers, but we do have a couple in our batch who are not (we have one very talented person who did his masters in Economics and we also have an architecht). So dont worry, the interview shall mostly be on the lines of either your work ex (if you have any) or on your acads (if you are a fresher), but I will tell you that basic knowledge in the general economy of the country could be tested. In fact, an interviewer can ask anything under the sun really!
Now regarding your query on specialisations, you are not expected to have that knowledge, else what use is the MBA? But of course, if you are interested in a particular stream in the MBA, you must be able to justify it in your intereview. Yes, systems in IIT is very good, but so are the other fields. We have professors in each field who are really well renouned in their field.
The centers for the interviews shall also be announced soon, along with the dates.

Thats quite a wide range of a score you have there. The various coaching institutes surely have most of us confused. I think your status in the race would depend on whether you have any work experience. Could you pls let me know about the same, so I could answer your query with clarity.
