do it.I am with ya.

hi i had taken public ad and maths as my subject..dint qualified pre cz of my to careless attitude and job. now m dead serious and want to change my subjects to maths and physics.plz do guide me further with my decision

@[584492:kanu007] Maths and Physics are gonna be a hell of a difficult combo. Have you seen physics paper? Don't get me wrong but I used be to pretty good in physics upto 12th and then after in graduation, but the paper is out of this world!

And besides you'll have to prepare for some topics of pub ad anyway. I think you should keep one of maths\physics and choose the 2nd one amongst subjects which will also help you in GS and essay etc like pub ad\history\geography etc.

I was hopeful earlier when I filled up the form that UPSC will change the Mains pattern in 2013 and there'll be only 1 subject in mains. But it seems highly unlikely in 2013 now. The committee which was supposed to submit their report about the changes by June hasn't done it yet.

@[355851:lemmings]: Which subjects do engineers usually pick?

@Omkarp said: @lemmings: Which subjects do engineers usually pick?
You are asking a pseudo Engineer 😛 . I think Most engineers pick nothing from their engineering. Some exceptional ones like the ones from IITs\NITs may choose their respective engineering discipline.

The kind of 'rationalization' and 'normalization' process adopted by UPSC, i.e. the final result should represent the same proportion of various subject as the proportion of no. of candidates taking the exam, makes it a little difficult to choose an optional which very few people will take and be successful. In Simple terms if 10k people took exam, 5k had pub ad., total seats = 1k, so about 500 selected should have pub ad as one of their subjects.

This is what I understand. Senior guys are welcome to elaborate on the same as I am not very familiar with the nitty gritty details of the same.

I get what you are saying. I was just trying to figure which would be a good optional to pick. :P

My engineering is as 'fail' as yours is, so that's out. Pub Ad is what we are going to do, so that seems logical. I don't know much beyond that. :(

Hey I am an engineer ( dnt even ask the branch :)) and have cleared PT. This was my first attempt. My optional subjects are PubAd and Geography. Can any one suggest me some books?

HAH, and I thought my optionals were bad. Good luck with geography buddy. I shall take my chances with economics.:D

yes bhai i am also with you it will be really beneficial as most of the people is going to take PAD as optional.

@[355851:lemmings] and ank210886
for PAd: http://anaydwivedi.wordpress.com/

@[355851:lemmings] thanks for the suggestion.. i will seriously consider what you said. physics was my choice as i am very bad in writing answers and my handwriting is also horrible. what are more pros and cons wd job of such subject combo?

@[536995:csl80] how is 120 questions for 100 marks is justified in epfo apfc exam where 25 english and 95 general studies questions are asked? when you wrote the exam were the break up of marks provided? in the question paper all the questions carry equal marks is quoted...throw some light on this point?

Kindly Advise:

I am planning to appear CSE 2013. (which will be my first attempt). But I am presently stuck somewhere till Mid-November 2012 and wont be able to start my preparations till then. I want to know whether its possible to clear prelims & then mains if I start my preparations so late from Mid-November 12?

Note: I will starting my preparations from scratch. No prior studies...nada..zero..zilch!
