I will talk about General Category. For CSE, you should be in the age bracket of 21-30. You will have 4 attempts in all. Hope this will answer your query.

Hey,i am aspirinig for IPS but have a doubt. As i am working wid tcs for past one year i am reluctant to leave the job and give a full effort for upsc,as it is the toughest exam possible.I am thinking about joining an mba program dis year and den keep preparing for UPSC exam. Also there is a age factor as i am already 24 yrs of age.Suggest me if its practically possible?

"Do naavon mein sawaar hona" is not good. Try to focus on one thing. You are just 24. Why do you feel that it is too late. Prepare for exam well. Where are you located?

Currently i am in chennai.UPSC is a big gamble,if i dont succed den i wont have a relevance of my work ex also. And i more thing which is holding me back is dat few astrologers told me not to go for ias or ips.But the only driving force wid me is my interest in dat field.

Ohk. So you are the one whom raghav suggested few things about astrology? Isn't it?

Buddy, you are still working with TCS. Continue with that and side-by-side prepare for Civils for a year - full-fledged preparation. If you are not able to clear prelims in first attempt then leave preparation and go for MBA. But at least try.

Actually it is all cyclic. Astrologers told you that you would not make it to IPS or IAS as it is written in your horoscope. What will be the reason that you will not be an IPS or IAS? If you think about it then what I understand is that someone will tell you that you should not try and you will not try and thus no IAS or IPS. So, half of it has already happened. But do not let those astrologers dictate your life for you. They may be cent percent correct or may be you may prove them wrong.

At least try it once.

Yes i am d same one and m happy to get such a wonderful insight on the toic from u,i think if i really want to give it a try den i shud head to delhi in Jan for 2012 attempt, coz while working wid a company we cant count it as a full fledged try!!

It would be good. But if you do not want to take risk then try to manage your time well with your job.

See, most of us who are working and want to follow our dreams to be part of civil services face the same problem. We cannot leave jobs because of various personal and family reasons. So, what is the solution. The solution lies in managing time well, which is easier said then done. But at least we should try.

First of all, make a timetable for each day from today till your Prelims in May next year. You know how much time you can devote after coming back from office. So, devise your schedule accordingly. Before that make up a list of Subjects and Resources that you will read and assign them place in schedule. Follow this schedule as far as possible. Take buffer time into account also.

You can modify your schedule whenever you feel. But have a schedule before you begin your studies along with the list of resources that you will follow and stick to that.

Before selecting Maths and Electrical engineering, answer my few questions. Are you really very good in them? Have you solved any of the previous years question papers? How do they went? If not good, then please do not select them as you will not get ample time along with your job to work on them.

What resources do you have for GS and CSAT?

Not necessarily. It will depend on your interest and above all aptitude for these subjects rather these two things - interest and aptitude - are important in selecting any subject as an optional.
