Having seen TMH and Arihant and CL and Time material, I would say that they contain lots of redundant material which is useless for CSAT paper. CSAT has become an integral part of UPSC Civil Services examination. If anyone wants to be a civil servant in India, CSAT becomes a crucial step for her. Usually, aspirants spend 95-100% of their time for GS preparation since it forms the syllabus of mains examination which decides the final ranking. It seems justified to prepare for GS (Mains and Prelims) but it can be suicidal if you don't prepare for CSAT at all (unless you are naturally good at it). Why CSAT preparation is important? · CSAT is a bottleneck in your CSE dream. If you can't clear the prelims, your entire GS preparation will be wasted · CSAT is easy to tame as compared to paper 1. You can easily score more than 130 marks in paper 2 whereas it becomes tough to score 100+ marks in paper 1 due to huge syllabus and unpredictable nature of paper · With cutoff marks going higher each year, you can't afford to ignore CSAT How to prepare for CSAT The very logical question will be how to prepare for CSAT. Should I join a coaching institute like CL or Time? Should I study from books like TMH and Arihant? Here are few tips which might help you to decide what to do. · Joining a coaching might make sense if you think that you are really weak in Aptitude or RC areas. These institutes conduct classes for 3-4 months which might cost you dear as you will be wasting quite a lot of time attending these classes. Also, they usually cover the topics which are beyond CSAT syllabus, wasting your time and resources. Still, these institutes might help few people. · Studying from TMH, Arihant or RS Aggarwal can be another option. I feel this option is better than the first one if you can really pull it off. These books are good and cover the entire syllabus for CSAT. The only problem with these books is they contain lot of redundant information and formula. Just see the past papers before studying from these books. Tips for cracking CSAT · Clear your concepts on basic numeracy, Data interpretation, logical reasoning and Reading comprehension. Go through theory from some good source. For RC, look for theory on GMAT RCs. It will really help you. · Don't mug up formulas from books. Clear your basic concepts. Mugging up formulas won't help you as at the final moment of truth, you will be confused as to what formula to use and what not · Try to practice for 2-3 hours each week. Practice will make your preparation perfect About CSAT prep guided online course Having cleared CAT with 99%tile marks, I feel I can really help the fellow aspirants in their CSAT preparation. friends in Delhi, can you please tell me info about new batches by various institutes for this year Pre+Mains. and will it be worthy to join them now given only 5-6 months remaining in prelims ? past selected mates are requested humbly to guide.
It is evident from responses of those selected as Bank PO or Clerk
through IBPS whose selection process completed before 17th Match, that
Jats who appeared as OBC during the selection procedure have been
selected for appointment as OBC even though the result was declared
after 17th March.
Such action is fully justified by the law as the Office Memorandum issued by
Department of Personnel and Training
Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions,
:
OM No.36033/4/97-Estt.(Res.) regarding
"Validity period of OBC certificate and verification of Community and
'non-creamy layer' status of OBC candidates"
clearly stated in its 3rd paragraph that:
"The appointing authority, before appointing a person seeking appointment
on the basis of reservation to OBCs
should verify the veracity of the community certificate submitted by the
candidate and also the fact that he/she does not fall in creamy layer on the crucial date. The crucial date for this
purpose may be treated as the closing date for receipt of applications for the
post except incases where crucial date is fixed otherwise."
This
crucial date followed by appointing authorities is usually the date of
application but can be extended to any time during the selection
procedure. However this should be mentioned in the advertisement.
IBPS did the legal thing by offering appointment to Jats as OBC who completed the selection procedure as OBC.
However there has been gross misjudgement by certain organizations who are not following the law:
UPSC:
Where the UPSC recruitment ad
dated 31.5.2014 clearly stated that:
"Candidates seeking reservation/relaxation benefits available for
SC/ST/OBC/PH/Ex-servicemen must ensure that they are entitled to such
reservation/relaxation as per eligibility prescribed in the Rules/Notice. They should also be in possession of all
the requisite certificates in the prescribed format in support of their
claim as stipulated in the Rules/ Notice for such benefits, and these certificates should be dated earlier than
the due date (closing date) of the application for CivilServices (Prelims)
Examination".
How can DOPT make such a gross misjudgment
and direct UPSC to go ahead with the results without considering Jats as OBC
for the Exam which they have already appeared
in as OBC.
