I think UPSC should go on the lines of CGPSC , personally i liked the changes that they have brought in . Its mains pattern is :
Paper-I
Language
Paper-II
Essay
Paper-III
History, Constitution and
Public Administration
Paper-IV
Science, Technology and
Environment
Paper-V
Economics & Geography
Paper-VI
Mathametics & Logical
Ability
Paper-VII
Philosophy & Sociology
p.s - all papers r compulsory !

But again.. here candidates from sociology and philosophy would get preference.. since this is a compulsory paper. That I guess is not desired by most candidates. Lets see what UPSC has to offer us this time and hope that it would be fair and equal to everyone.

philosophy and sociology will kill the rest of us,,hopefully this wont happen

yeah it might kill of us , but Science and Maths papers would definitely injure Arts students badly !!!

Anyways whatever UPSC does , i am definitely in favor of removing optionals !
Came across may such incidences whr candidates had to change their optionals again n again to finally triumph !

The difference is.. while maths and science is of the 10th standard... which everyone, irrespective of science or commerce or humanities is expected to study,... philosophy and sociology would be min of 12th standard since I dont think any board in India would have sociology or philosophy in 10th standard. But it is futile to discuss these issues, and hence let us leave it all to UPSC.

totally agreed,,,in maths and science they wont ask for calculus or complicated trignmometry or geometry,,it would be similar to ssc level, but for philosophy and etc,,it would be graduation and masters level,,we all know UPSC will not give a syllabus which is limited,,they will just say Indian history and that will include everything and so on...it would be almost anything from any subject,,,so i still hope that the combination or philosophy is not implemented,,,lets hope for the best

the notification is still pending the rumor is that it can expected in next two weeks and if not in worst case it could be march .
this delay all due to a court case regarding moderation in mains .
