Hi,
with a profile like : mechanical engineering degree from Mumbai university + 3.6 years of work experience in Infosys technologies as a software engineer , is a UK MBA worth it?
ROI ,recognition and value addition- do we have any of these paramenter getting sufficed via the UK MBA.
The temptation for UK mba is due to:
1) 1 year duration
2) cheaper compared to US or even India(some insitutes)
i m not talking about LSB or London school of Economic. the unviersty of Dundee, MiddleSex unviersity or the Edinburgh Napier university are in focus here. the UK economy currently is in a bad shape and so is the job market over there. 2 yrs from now, we do not know how it is going to be.
So the UK MBA gets a hands up or a hands down from the universities that are listed above??
need help plz!!
I beleive UK-MBA is still a worthy option, after considering current market situation, coz of many advantages it offers.
1. 1 yr program - Biggest Advantage
2. Cheaper - Biggest Differentaitor
3. Opens the door of EU - Multi Cultural
I too have chosen UK as my MBA destination, & hoping that the prevalent market downturn will also throw up varied challenging opportunities . Certainly thr will be fewer opporutnities in bad market, but that does not mean MBA jobs will disappear totally. And, its very obvious that UK businesses will prefer UK MBA grads not US MBA grads
.
Manchester, Cass, Imperial, HULT are 2nd tier uk schools ( but better than schools u mentioned) which u can get into with a decent GMAT score of 650+ .
All D Best

Hey I think its not the right time to do MBA from UK...I did my engineering from University of Nottigham which is a very goood university...See right now the condition of the market is not good at all in UK there are very few jobs in the markets and since u will be an international student then its gonna be really difficult for u to get a job since u wont have ur degree from a decent university. Also think urself in a year nothing big will happen..if market will improve then UK citizens will get the job first!!...yeah MBA is one year over there which is a big plus!!..but the university which charges u less then India are not good at all Mate...Lot of people from these universities dont get decent job thats the Fact!!...
I would suggest that take admission in Good University..cheers
hey...sounds good and different at the same time. Honestly, i have not heard any success stories till now and thus i was a little worried to go for this option. there are universties in UK like Brunel, Dundee etc..which do not demand any GMAT scores, jsut a TOEFL or IELTS suffices the need. I wonder if these universities make any sense or make only money in term of a not huge but big amount of tution fees....! any suggestions?
Man never do an MBA from the universities who don't demand GMAT. When I say one can still consider UK as an option, i strictly mean top 10 programs only. Not beyond that.

Hi Dear,
Well I dont understand the reason why are you considering these non-ranked Universities
? If less tuition fees is your only concern to pursue an MBA then you should think of the Value of the MBA degree that u r investing for. I mean this is really silly to go for these Unknown schools...after having a Engg degree and a substantial experience.Don't be in a hurry-worry to go for an International MBA :nono:.. this MBA would be your Last bet to get your 'Dream Job'
.. so just Relax..I might be so good to get into a Reputed university Next year..as compared to Rushing for ANY MBA this year
. Dear u look for the Top10-12 UK MBAs..Focuss for the Tier-I b-schools..or else look for the Top Tier-II UK MBA..if somehow u r unable to get into them..or you find them very Expensive. have u written GMAT? If not..then Prepare for the GMAT..having an Engg background you would be able to score well in it (need to work on Verbal). Without a GMAT..you don't have much good options..except a few ones like Durham & Aston..but I think that you should target to the Good schools only.
The B-schools worth considering are given below:
1. LSB
2. Judge (Cambridge)
3. Said (Oxford)
(These r the Top-3)
TIER-I
4. Manchester
5. Cranfield
6. Warwick
7. Lancaster
8. Cass(City), London
9. Tanaka(Imperial), London
(4-8 are great schools & have excellent
TEIR-II
10. Strathclyde, Glasgow
11. Durham
12. Bath
13. Leeds
14. Aston, Birmingham
I hope this helps.
Cheers 😃

I would suggest to get some more experience, at least 5-6 years, and if possible some time in managerial position before looking for a UK mba.
Well,
I believe MBA in UK is going to be the best option for Indian Students if they do not get good school in US. Again because of recession it might not be possible for all, to spend that amount of money since US MBA is quite costly. UK MBA opens the door of the entire Europe for you and not only UK.
besides you will have your MBA completed in 1 year along with a 2 year post study work visa which is enough time for you to get a job, make an impression and convince your employer to extend your visa beyond the initial 2 years.
But I am not quite sure how much worth an UK MBA is here in India. But should be worth with MNC employers. Again, the entire prospect depends upon how you learn and where you learn...:)
Guys looking for UK MBA--- Can suggest you one website for UK MBA preparation...I personally got quite a bit of help from it...it does have got wonderful resources....

Your comment - "UK MBA opens the door of the entire Europe for you and not only UK." - is not entirely true. This might be true only for few individuals but not necessarily for most , esp in bad economy like this. I know people from IE and HEC who could not get jobs in France, Germany and Spain etc because of language barriers and had to go to London, Singapore and India. And visa regulations etc do not make it easy at all.
You need an MBA, that too from UK, along with a job in Europe.....!!!.....mate, this is not India that companies will come to your campus for jobs....it's quite obvious you need to learn other languages, other cultures and may be have definite work experience in 1-2 countries...buddy, MBA is for people with 7-8 years of work ex (that too quality work ex) unlike India where people after graduation directly vies for it...you can't expect a hefty paycheck just because you have a degree and learned your degree well.....:P

StudyMBAinUK.com-World's Biggest WebSite for MBA, Masters in Management in UK,GMAT,IELTS,Studying in UK,Management in UK
Which schools are you considering?
It seems that you don't have a clear picture of the UK b-schools & the present scenario over there..& the Value of UK MBA within the Indian market (MNCs or Indian MNCs).
It is really worth to go for a UK MBA only if you have are going to attend the the TOP 5-6 UK MBA..then your Investment of Time, Money & Energy is Worth..or else you are taking a Big risk.
I am admitted to Imperial 2010-2011 batch. Would like to meet similar people.

Dr Saurab and ALL,
I am pretty new to this pagalguy. Guys, I need your valuable suggestions on an MBA from UK. I have over 5 years of marketing experience from Dubai - United Arab Emirates. I was working mainly in the events and exhibition industry. Recently I lost My job due to recession and I am back in India. However it was recent that I got the urge to do an MBA from UK, since I always wanted to go to uk and work there. My BBM score is only a 2nd class. But though being late to apply to good universities - I have got only offer letters from Bournemouth and Coventry. I do not want to waste anymore time waiting for next year. I am aware that these universities are not that great at all, but do not have other choice.
Questions for you guys to help me?
1. Is this universities worth it? if yes, which one? coventry or bournemouth MBA?
2. Is it a good time to go to UK?.. I am going with an education loan and would have to return it back myself. Will i be able to find jobs with good 5 years of marketing experience in uk?
3. I also have a offer from Edith Cowan University off campus study centre in Bangalore?.. If i cant go to uk, I have to do this at least. I am only looking for western degree as it has become a trend in dubai to have one of them and is much valued than indian MBA's. The off campus does not cost me much as it is in bangalore?..
Plz guys need a help in making up my mind as I am running short of time to apply and respond to these universities without losing an year.. plz plz help me...

Hi Haris,
I would be straight-forward & precise.
1. NOT WORTH (EITHER OF THEM).. for an experienced guy like your's.
2. NO.. the UK Market is not in a Good shape.. Plus you are looking for an UNKNOWN MBA.. which Might be a Sheer Wastage of Time, Money, Energy & Career.
3. Check out with the HR dept of the Employer (in Dubai).. if they recognise this degree.. as an of-campus one. But in short.. I WONT RECOMMEND it. I know few guys who did their MBA from Wigan & Leigh College, UK.. as an off-campus.. The degree is NOT recognised in India (by AICTE) & they could not get job after it.. so beware of it.. Don't Look for Short-cuts.
Why dont you prepare & apply for the Next intake? Its better to wait.. rather than Waste.
Hope this helps.
All the best.
@ Dr Saurabh,
You've rated Strathclyde as 2nd tier, that too below lancaster and cass?? :-o
Reasons please...
I've done a bit of research and found them to be pretty good for strategy & consulting, location disadvantage notwithstanding. Also, you seem to have landed a Strath admit, so I'd like to know your rationale behind ur stand.
@Waiwai - What admits have you lapped up until now?

Dear CheckEETS,
All the information that I've shared.. have been gathered by intensive research & feedback from current students & Alumni (Indian, Brits & European junta) of these UK b-schools.
My reasons for Strathclyde are following:
1. Strathclyde was NEVER in the Tier-1 Category.. it was just in 2008.. that it was ranked so high in FT Global Rankings.. (Never before) & thereafter it is consistently dropping in Rankings.
2. Whereas Lancaster & Cass.. are very well known for Consulting (Lancaster MBA has 3 consulting projects.. as a part of Curriculum.. which is not in case with Strath) & Finance (Cass is Globally recognized for Finance jobs.. as it is also located in the World's Finance capital-London)
3. My Criteria for an MBA.. is very important.. in terms of Jobs..(As I'm aspiring for a career-change & look for a job with an MBA.. & not just 'Quality Education') I mean Placement Statistics.. so in this category Lancaster & Cass.. are Heads & Shoulders above Strath. I personally know many guys from Lancaster.. who have successfully changed their career, at-ease.
4. The recognition of Strath MBA is not very good in India.. whereas Lancs & Cass have a 'WOW-FACTOR'.
5. The Career-services of Strath is the WORST in their curriculum.. & the Alumni have been cribbing & repenting on this part.. time & again. Job-Hunting is a NIGHTMARE for most of them.
6. The best part of Lancaster along with Warwick.. is its Competitive Fee-Structure.. which is at par with Strath or any other Tier-2 MBA (Aston, Leeds etc).
7. Strath started asking for GMAT from this session (2010-11) only.. with Min 550... whereas Lancaster & Cass have been asking for GMAT since ages.. & the avr GMAT score for Lancs & Cass are 660 & 680 respectively (which is at par with ANY top b-school in the world).
8. So this is the reason that I deferred my admits for the next intake.. & in the mean-time I'm now focusing for the Tier-1 schools (specially Lancaster & Warwick.. not Cass, as Finance is not my cup of tea) & top Asian schools like ISB, NUS, NTU & HKUST.. wherein Placements are phenominal & are very well regarded in India (I intend to work in India only).
I think that, this clears your Doubts... about Strath. (Waisae... Strath is well-known for Startegy.. so if you have a back-up plan & can spare time for Job-hunting.. then go for Starth... is it a good name.. with Triple Accreditation.)
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Saurabh.
Guys, how good is Aberdeen Business School of Robert Gorden University?.. Its MBA is AMBA accredited and the curriculum seems fine. What's ur opinion?
haris_hamza SaysGuys, how good is Aberdeen Business School of Robert Gorden University?.. Its MBA is AMBA accredited and the curriculum seems fine. What's ur opinion?
It is an average school.
Aberdeen is known for its Shipping Industry.. so the specialization in Shipping is worth.. if u intend to join that Industry... after your MBA.
Otherwise the General MBA from Aberdeen is good 4 nothing.
Hope this helps.
