Hi,

Apart from NOC required from employer, an affidavit may also be required as mentioned in instructions. This affidavit is required if there is gap of one or more sessions between passing the last exam and admission being sought now. Where can we get this affidavit from ????

It would be helpful if somebody from UBS can clarify on this.

Yes, its actually NRI sponsored category. Foreigners and NRI's do not apply to UBS, its way down the pecking order in rankings and placements, even IIM-A is presently the only B-School in India, I suppose, which gets a few foreigners and NRI's on its hallowed premises, based on GMAT scores. Anyway, the NRI sponsored category of UBS is open to resident Indians. Fees is US $10000, total for 2 years, plus placement fees, fees for books provided by UBS, hostel fees (If you want to stay on the Panjab University campus, though its not compulsory, you can stay off-campus as PG). Hostels on P.U. campus are also shared by other Pgites of Panjab University, so you'll have UBS guys bunched up with Arts, Sciences, & Commerce Pgites. regarding the Percentile cutoffs for this category, take it safely as 80 per., lower if the CAT paper comes tougher.

Dear,
Since you have left your previous job, you must be having a job leaving certificate stating the duration of your work, possibly also have the date of leaving the job. That will be sufficient at the time of interview. However, as you have mentioned leaving your job in June 2005, are you presently unemployed? If so, then you get a gap period affidavit made from the time of leaving your job to the time of applying for UBS. Also, it is not required to attach this gap period certificate at the time of submitting the application form, after your G.D./P.I., if you are finally selected, then you will be called again for verification of your original certificates, then you may submit the gap period certificate. I hope that is clear to you. All the best for CAT.

Hi folks,
A clarification. A gap year certificate is required only if you have a gap between academic sessions, as rightly mentioned above, however; please note that if you get a job immediately after your studies, and you are still in employment at the time of applying to UBS, no gap year certificate will be required. Meaning, you have spent your time fruitfully, and not idled away at home doing nothing. Of course, the NOC from employer will be required in this case.
For those wanting the gap year certificate for any valid reasons, you can approach the local estate office in your hometown, buy a stamp paper for Rs.5, and get the gap year certificate typed and attested by a notary or oath commissioner available at the estate office itself. I am enclosing the wording required for this certificate, a copy of which I have obtained from Panjab University--

AFFIDAVIT

I, xyz, S/o xyz, Resident of ---------------, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under:--

1. That I have passed (Name of Course) in the the year of ---------- from (Name of Institute).

2. That during the gap period------------, I did not join any college/institution anywhere in India.

3.That during the gap period-------------, I was not involved in any offence/court/case anywhere in India.

Verified that the said statement of mine is true and correct to the best of my knowledge and belief and nothing has been concealed therein.

Folks, please note down this certificate wording carefully. I am not going to spend time in typing the whole document over again. All the best.

Hi UBS aspirants,
This post is for those pgs interested in applying to UBS this year. UBS was a virtual non-entity North of Delhi, courtsey lack of industry, until it gained some wavelength on pagalguy forum. I consider UBS a risky proposition. It is a bag of mixed fortunes. The department manages pretty well placements when the economy is on the upswing, a trend similar to b-schools across India. However, during an economic downturn, placements at UBS plunge dangerously, in fact much more than other top level b-schools. I cannot predict the economy 2 years hence (Economy being cyclical in nature throughout the world), hence I reteirate that UBS is risky proposition. I've being going to the department, keeping a watch on the notice board, almost every placement was for engineers. Finance being a passion for me, I would consider it foolhardy applying to UBS. Only the braveheart, I feel foolish enough would take up Finance in second year. You can ask UBS guys, most opt for marketing, offering decent placements. Asian Paints took a guy (Bangalore) for 6.5 lac some time back, it was all over the local newspapers. HR placements are a close second. MIB folks here too are in the doldrums.
Panjab University (UBS is a constituent) does not get UGC support. Its finances are met by Chandigarh:Panjab in the ratio 40:60. At times Panjab reneges upon its support of finances, leaving the University in dire straits. This is because Panjab wants to wrest total control of the University, which is now under the jurisdiction of Chandigarh (Folks, Chandigarh is a U.T. first, and then a joint capital of Panjab & Haryana). Most financial support goes towards salaries of faculty and other staff, leaving meagre amount for the various departments upkeep.
Now consider UBS. There are over 30 seats in NRI/NRI sponsored category. Each seat is worth US $10000 (Fees). Lets say Rs.5,00,000 (Rounded off figure). Now 5 lac*30= Rs.1.5 crores. General category students pay meagre fees, so lets not consider that. UBS has no financial control over this amount, this sum goes to Panjab University, which can spend it according to its own discretion. Result, dear friends, UBS has dark, dingy classrooms, hot in summers, freezing in winters. What keeps the students going is the thought of good placements in 2 years time. The library is ancient, with no decent upgrades over the years, faculty is praiseworthy in the sense that it is somehow able to provide the students with the latest updates about the business world. Mind you, I am not making any stories, this was stated on a popular newspaper some time back. I've heard of the computer lab upgrade, but no idea as to what level this has been achieved.
Students take active part in the placement process. They visit key cities all over India to invite companies for campus placements, to make them aware that there is a b-school called UBS. This process of creating awareness amongst potential recruiters has definately paid dividends over the years. Is this was not so, UBS would have no placements. A point to illustrate-- my friend was the topper of his batch in college in arts, he came 6th overall in UBS, got no placement. He had to request his Indian Foreign Service brother-in-law to help him get a placement with Citicorp in Delhi for Rs.7000. This is just one example, others might have got better placements.
For engineers majoring in Comp. Science and Electronics, UBS is certainly a good choice. As you folks may be well aware of, the Rajiv Gandhi Technology park at Chandigarh is coming up at a rapid pace. It will offer good placements to UBS engineers in marketing of IT products and services when they pass out in 2 years time, however, UBS does not have specialisation in systems, what to speak of the lousy computer labs.
Any comments on this post are most welcome, even critical appraisal.

Hii

I have done my engineering form PEC, Chandigarh and am aware of some of the things at UBS. Actually, I have never been to classrooms and so i dont know what kind of infrastructure n other things it maintains. But as far as placements was concerned, I had a couple of friends in UBS who were non engineers , who got very good placements..
I dont know why such thing happened in the case of ur citibank frnd..

The one thing which I also feel bad about UBS is its lack of strategic advertisement.
Inspite of the fact that UBS is amongst the top 25 BSchools of India Only those from chandigarh or nearby areas or having frnds doing mba in UBS are aware of this school.
Whereas Tapmi, IMT etc the equal rung Bschools with similar placement patterns have been able to stand out and make a mark for themselves, UBS is unable to do that..

But inspite of all these things, I am applying to UBS and would definitely be joining in case I get thru''

I would take this calculated risk..
Regards
Kamal.

Hi Hemdeep,
The offline forms are to be attested by a gazetted officer, same rules apply for online forms too. You cannot have different sets of rules for the same application forms.

Don't worry,
Panjab University (Of which UBS is a constituent), is notorious for such faux pass. I've had ample such experiences in the past, having done my graduation here. Just submit the form leaving that relevant column blank. To be doubly sure, just attach a written note along with the application form, stating that the application being submitted is a downloaded version, and does not carry any application number. The administrative staff at UBS will then allot your application a number.

hi ubs guys plz look into my case:

i have passed my engineering this year .i.e. JUNE 2005

there after i joined my father's office and working in sales from 3rd july 2005.

i have my degree and a work experience certificate from my former employer i.e. father.

do i need to submit an NOC .. ??

is work ex under father valuable ? if not ,does it cause any serious problems in getting a call ??

Hey guys n gals

I have just come to know from a friend that we can not submit UBS form by speed/registered post. We have to submit it by hand. Is that true, Please verify it. Other wise our form is liable to get rejected.

I have form still with me and waiting for UBS people to respond.

One more thing, Is there specific weightage to Chandigarh junta for finally getting selection in UBS i.e. if 2 persons are having same percentile then chandigarh people are more preferred by them (UBS).

Please clarify this also

Thanks and

ALL THE BEST
