IIT Delhi's 'TRYST' 2016 from February 26 to February 29

It was an atmosphere of zeal and curiosity as the inauguration ceremony of TRYST went underway at IIT Delhi on Friday, February 26. The much anticipated evening was a packed house as the technical minds from institutes across India flocked to the Dogra Hall to witness the event. The event started off with the launch of the theme, "THE FIFTH DIMENSION", which celebrates the world of possibilities waiting for us out there in the technical field, followed by the launch of the Mega Events based on the same idea.

The ceremony was graced by Mr Salil Pande, founder of VMock,    Mr Pradeep Sharma, founder of Robosapiens and Chairman, TRYST, Prof. James Gomes. The words of encouragement and appreciation by the guests of honour set the stage nicely for the days to follow.

 The ceremony ended with a laser show to mark the launch of the Tryst logo. Tryst is now officially open, with a bang of course.

The first day of the fest, 27th February turned out exactly as it was promised. The enthralling guest lectures by Mr Kris GopalaKrishnan, Mr Kunal Shah, Mr Shailesh Vikram Singh, Mr Sarthak Sethi and some more, further complemented by the engaging workshops like Rubik's cube, Aeromodelling  and competitions comprising many quizzes were indeed the perfect recipe for a tech extravaganza.

Events like Paper presentation, RoboSoccer, Ecosummit, Lan Gaming and Youth Parliament amongst others were some of the events attended by the students. Also, when they were not busy showcasing their technical know-how, the students made sure to have some fun at the Informal Stage, Food Lane and the ever popular Laser Tag.

Flipkart founders win hearts at IIT Delhi's Tryst 2016

The second day of Tryst, the extravagant technical fest of IIT Delhi went on with great enthusiasm shown by the participants and the audience alike.

The prime event scheduled for day 2 that attracted the maximum audience was the Q&A session with Sachin and Binny Bansal, founders of the Indian e-commerce giant Flipkart. The success of the event was apparent from huge crowds that had gathered outside the venue. The Bansal duo described their journey from being JEE aspirants to IIT-Delhi students. Their story first as Amazon employees and then establishing their own company was awe-inspiring.

An event called Heartfulness had lectures on the power of meditation. The event was held to help people take time out for themselves from their super busy schedule.

Students showcased their robots at Mine Maze and Roboball.  Texword organised by the Textile Engineering Society was a unique experience. Students got an opportunity to express their innate mathematical genius in events like Math Buzz and Life O' Mathematics.

The Economics Club organised a few events of its own including Omniscience, Mock stocks and Capitalist Conundrum. A case study competition called Watch the Road was organised by National Service Scheme (NSS) chapter of IIT Delhi on traffic rules to prevent accidents.  

The Amazing Race organised by the Biotechnology department took the campus by storm. With clues hidden all over the campus, students were seen running from buildings to canteen in their bid win. They were encouraged by enthusiastic students from all over Delhi who had converged on the campus to be a part of Tryst 2016.

The day also featured lectures by roboticists and researchers like Richard Stallman, young innovators like K. Vaithweesharan and social activists like Ravi Kalra.

T-shirts were given off to students for their impromptu performances enjoyed by the audience.   The Immense participation was observed at all events with students hoping to win the prizes or just looking for an opportunity to participate. The day ended with screening of the movie District 9.

There couldn't have been better utilization of February 29, than to watch one of India's largest annual Technical Festival conclude. IIT Delhi's "vmock Tryst" powered by Robosapiens and driven by Datsun. This 3-day extravaganza was flagged off on February 26, with a theme called 'FIFTH DIMENSION,' which celebrates the idea of Gravity being a dimension just like spatial coordinates and time.

The inaugural ceremony left the crowd craving for more laser shows and robot dances performed not by humans but by robots themselves. This marked the beginning of a line-up of more than 100 events which included guest lectures, competitions, informal events, workshops, debating events etc. You name an event and they had it. The first day of the fest had lectures of Dr Archana Sharma, Mr Kris Gopalakrishnan, Mr Sudhir Sethi, Mr Kunal Shah and some more eminent personalities. And who can forget the amazing workshops namely Rubik's Cube, FSAE and the one by none other than Mr Arsh Dilbagi. These events were followed by myriad competitions like RoboSoccer, Robowars, quizzes like Electroquiz, Astro Quiz, trailed by a Gaming Night to everyone's delight. The winners of TATA Pioneer's makerthon were also announced on Day 1.

Day 2 saw engaging events like Youth Parliament, Paper Presentation, Fake Research, Mock Stocks etc. Where else do we see such a perfect combination of economics, literature and technical events than at Tryst? It was a great pleasure to hear personalities like Mr. Richard Stallman, Dr Jayati Ghosh. The informal stage events ensured that everybody is well entertained. Flipkart Q&A Session with Mr Sachin Bansal and Mr Binni Bansal was the cynosure of the day.

The final day was lined up with events like Bridge Building, Embeddtrix, Speedy CAD Design etc. It was great to be an audience to lecturers like Mr Charley Lineweaver and Mr Ralph Leighton. The elite IIT Parliamentary Debate Competition also concluded on the final day. This 4-day festival saw massive crowds from over 300 prestigious technical colleges and no denying the fact that Tryst duly served its aim of bringing together world's leading scientific minds along with renowned technologists and influential thinkers and connecting them to the students and faculty across India.
