TRIVIA-L pursuit

Ok I know there is already a Trivia thread, but this is one is not just about useless knowledge...Its useless knowledge which is endless..

Here's how it works:
There is a factoid in the earlier post:

The LIVESTRONG wristbands, manufactured by Nike, were popularised by Lance Armstrong..

Now the next guy picks up a word from the above factoid, and gives us something on that, like this:

Sheryl Crow recently broke up with Lance Armstong

Then the next guy:

Sheryl Crow was once a dancer with Michael Jackson's troupe.

And the next guy:

Jackson heights in New York is known as Jaikishen Heights due to its high Indian population...

And so on and so forth...

I know its a bit like the Once Upon A Time, but OUAT can't hold a candle to the sheer senselessness of Trivial Pursuit...

Oh, I almost forgot the RULES:
1. Thou shalt not make up thy own trivia
2. Only one factoid per post.
3. If thou art really so passionate, post a link after thy piece of trivia, but keep the post short...

Hmm..That's about it...Let Trivial Pursuit begin.......

Ok...To start it off:

In Gulliver's Travels Jonathan Swift described the two moons of Mars, Phobos and Deimos, giving their exact size and speeds of rotation. He did this more than one hundred years before either moon was discovered.

interesting thread..i only hope we get some REAL trivia & not spam

..me continues. using Phobos & Deimos as keywords

In the computer game Doom (id software) you play a space marine (who is "one of Earth's toughest, hardened in combat and trained for action", who has been deported to Mars for assaulting a senior officer when ordered to kill unarmed civilians. you work for Union Aerospace Corporation (UAC), a which is performing secret experiments with teleportation between the moons of Mars, Phobos and Deimos

Bertie dear,
u have given a very different exampl... how do u intend to play this trivia game? I supposed that u would have to give another fact.... related to a word in the previous fact..... but that's not how u are playing..... the example u have given is quite different.......

Earth was, in fact, named after the Roman goddess of the land, Terra. Many languages today still use her name for Earth (for example, the French word for our home planet is 'La Terre').

"The End" is a song by The Doors which is played at the opening & closing scenes of Apocalypse Now. The spoken-word section of the song includes the lines "Father/ Yes son?/ I want to kill you/ Mother, I want to...**** you," (with the last two words screamed unintelligibly). This is often considered an homage to Sophocles' Oedipus the King, a production of which Jim Morrison worked on while at Florida State University.

cheers

psst..personal trivia..i had an offer of admission from Florida State..darn! why dint i know this Jim Morrison connection before

Marine One is the call sign of any United States Marine Corps aircraft carrying the President of the United States. It usually denotes one of 19 helicopters operated by the HMX-1 "Nighthawks" squadron, either the large H-3 Sea King or the newer, smaller UH-60 Black Hawk.

PS: @ TerminatorIV: Please pick up words from the last post before yours, to avoid confusion....:)

The Marine Corps is the second smallest of the five branches (Navy, Marine Corps, Army, Air Force, Coast Guard) of the U.S. military, with 176,000 active and 40,000 reserve Marines as of 2005. The US Marine Corps is nonetheless larger than the armed forces of many major nations; for example, it is larger than the British Army.

Christopher Columbus departed from Spain on August 3, 1492, on a fleet of three ships: the Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria. Nina and Pinta were both smaller, sleeker ships, called caravels. Santa Maria was a larger, round-hulled ship, called a nao. Columbus himself sailed on, and piloted, the Santa Maria. Together, the three ships carried about 120 men, equipment and supplies
