sorry dude, cant help you with all those details
iday,
just wanted to know if i give toefl... now will the collge get the scores before the deadlines.. if i am sending my apllications next week sometime .. waht do i fill in the toefl score section.. i am like confused about this.. would appreciate if you could help me on this ....
how much time do they take for sending the scores.... i am sorry for asking this i have not done much research on toefl... just started ....some colleges need it so might as well get it done with it ....
when are you giving the test .....
Once u finish the test, u will see a range within which ur score will fall, based on ur essay scores. TOEFL site says that they take 2 weeks to evaluate ur essays and give u an official score. The schools will receive the official scores in about a weeks time once this is done. u will receive ur score in about 3 weeks time. In the mean time, u can call up TOEFL and get to know ur scores for a fee of $10. U can quote this score (self reported score) in the app and submit. Most of the schools will accept self reported scores. As always, it is better that u read the TOEFL clauses of each score or get in touch with the AdComm to verify whether they accept self reported scores.

Thanks ... this was lot of help ...

Hey Yogi,
Once the test is done, please post an analysis of how it was and how you prepared. Should be helpful 😃

Nonedone,
the test is nothing. I appeared for the CBT on 19th (Tuesday) and my score range is 243 - 300. How much did i prepare - zilch. jus got familiar with the test thru the sampler and took two full length tests on the PowerPrep. Both these softwares are available for free download on the etc site. If u have decent english skills - TOEFL is a cake walk.

iday,
are you sending your sciores to college where it is optional such as Harvard, Stanford
yale .... i know for kelogg its mandatory ......:(

Darden doesnt waive it off dude...
My colleague spoke with the AdComm and he was asked to take TOEFL :wow:
So - Darden is off the Waiving list
I am into a similar situation with Darden. They arent waiving it off for me either. There were a couple of mails that flew back and forth between me and the ADCOM. I dont know why they are taking such a stiff stance against Toefl waivers.
Nevertheless I have my inti scheuled at CHO on Mon 25th. I am still hopeful of working out something on this issue. Even if I take a Toefl now its gonna push my Darden app into R2, which is kind a frustrating.
From wht my contacts say....Darden used to waive it off till last yr.
regards,
dev
i think you can safely add MIT, Ross and Darden to that list.
this position from Kellogg s***s man.
Kunal,
Darden isnt waiving off the Toefl. The info on the website is sort of misleading.
This what the ADCOM had to say.
Dear XXXXXX,
Thank you for your interest in the Darden School MBA program. Based on some new information from the University of Virginia, all non-native speakers of English are required to take the TOEFL before being admitted. As much as 50% of a students grade at Darden depends upon active oral participation in the classroom. If you have at least 2 years of education in the U.S. your request for a TOEFL waiver will be considered by the International Students Office at the University. Otherwise, all international students must submit a TOEFL with the application with no exceptions.

Thanks iday!
I'm taking the iBT though. The sample test costs 35$!!!
I got Kaplan's iBT prep CD, dunno how much it will help.
My other worry is if some of the college's I'm applying to don't accept iBT. Have written to all of them- only gotten 1 reply, and the lady seemed to be unaware of the fact that different tests exist!
I was also in the "should I/should I not" write the TOEFL mode..... I know its easy but the new iBT thing has made things worse in my area instead of improving it.... number of test locations have dropped and earliest test date available is Nov 10
??: ....so I totally dropped the TOEFL idea.
I am typing out emails to all adcoms (not apping to Darden - looks like they are pretty stiff about this TOEFL thingy).... NYU and Emory have explicitly stated(on their websites) that applicants from India may be waived/do not require TOEFL (of course this is assuming language of instruction at school/college was english)...just wanted to share this info to NYU and Emory applicants...
All the best to the TOEFL takers

Where are you based?
In Mumbai, the iBT is administered everywhere- you can get dates from 1st Oct onwards. If you really want to go to a school, and the time-frame isn't working out, you should consider travelling to Bombay (or wherever else) to take it.

based near Houston, TX.....ironic but yeah homeland has better test facilities than the home of the test...
I'll probably call them by phone and ask if there are earlier dates available....i feel the TOEFL site is kinda screwed.....

No kidding?
I'll be in Houston exactly a month from now.
I don't really think demand is very high for the TOEFL in America!

Wharton replied to theTEOFL waiver request with the following
"You may request a waiver of the TOEFL if you include a written
request with your application, outlining the reason(s) you
believe you are eligible for one. Waivers are primarily offered
to candidates whose language of instruction at university is
English or who have significant exposure to the English language."
just a couple of more univs to hear back from and I can scratch out TOEFL from my to-do list completely.

Good job!
(The forum software says "Good Job" is too short a message- and won't allow me to post it, so I'm writing this non-sensical explanation to increase the length of the message, just so I can say "good job")

In my (limited) experience, none of the AdComms change their response from what the website says. So if we satisfy the requirements presented in the website, we can coolly forget bothering the AdComm on this front.
