OK,so GST and VAT are same as they tax the value added on each transaction, be it the seller , the middleman or the buyer.Jitna value added , utna tax
The only diff between VAT and GST now is :
1)GST will be unifrom throught, VAT isnt
2)Under the purview of GST, even services will be taxed.Now, services are not taxed under VTA - Is this right? I am not sure.

@mohit07 GST is also divided into CGST and SGST like they have it in Canada and Brazil. VAT was brought in for taxing services but now entertainment tax, luxury tax and various other taxes not under VAT have also been brought under GST. GST is superset of VAT+ other service taxes.
