Met you in last year's January after a disastrous CAT...

65.62 it was in VALR!! Good enough to spoil a precious year of one's career..

So CAT is more about randomness...But you are too good...Not just for the scores you used to get in mocks but because of your willingness to help everyone,staying active in all these threads throughout the season and inspiring others...I can recall how many times I got help from you during this season's prep..

You are too good to get affected by CAT...

As they say: 'Form is temporary,class is permanent'...There is a bright future ahead of you...Everyone here has a very good idea about your potential...And you will prove it in due course of time :)

Hi,

It is very true from your point of view that "there are too many uncertainties in this paper to be banking upon it year after year after year" but this is the journey which makes you stronger and capable to face the forthcoming challenges in life...CAT is not only about being strong in QA or excellent in VA or getting through a GDPI with stellar performances it is all about the hard-work you do for 1/2/3 years to improve your professional/personal brand. If you start 2K13 aiming that on 9th Jan 2K14 I'll bag 99.99 % then the probability of getting disappointed and shocked is very high, your approach must be this year I'll make 7 resolutions out of which doing well in CAT will be the primary, other 6 you can decide as per your need: learn a language/instrument/professional certification/play a sport @ club level and win some recognition/swimming/attend some good community clubs: Book review club/fight hard in a good quiz competition(TATA) and in the process you'll learn and evolve tremendously. So even if you get 91.99 % in CAT 2K14 you can feel proud that you have achieved something else(rest 6 resolutions) which you can reap in the far future : you'll have that self-confidence installed in you and you'll be ready to face any challenge in your life much larger in comparison to CAT !
Here lies the difference between JEE and CAT, this is a very important phase of your career and all you need is patience off-course coupled with hard-work.
If you look into the background of veteran Puys in AIWTSC, you'll see the majority have survived this phase and they'll never agree to the fact that those were the BAD phase in their life rather those were the most effective learning phase in their life & by learning I mean all around learning not just QA-VA ( Adcoms in SPJAin are far smart, they know what it takes to play Ranji & score 89%) just like engineers study like hell before the exam. So IMO channelize all your -ve energy &/or frustrations into will to succeed & you'll feel happy like never before. The more you fall the more you introspect & the more you introspect the better the person you become. Don't think that getting into a good B-School is the result of your 1/2/3 years of hard-work, this is a long term investment. We all clap when Aamir Khan gives a dialogue " success ke piche mat bhago..."etc. & forget the same afterward : but that is the reality : improve yourself & you'll finally get the result as hard work will eventually be rewarded. @sid2222000 is taking his time and I believe he is preparing himself.

So this is how it goes:

=>Joined classes in 2007 (third year)
Ruined 'The one and only' Written CAT 08 bcoz of jaundice. Still gave a fight till the end. 91.xx%le

=>Casual attempt in 2009 coz I started working and I thought that it would be advantageous if I had some prior experience. 93.xx%le (online CAT)

=>Resigned from first job (17 months exp on 17 nov 2010) Didn't appear for CAT 2010 as the date clashed with my joining date.

=>Prepared seriously this tym..had few ups and downs in personal life and scored 89.xx%le (Online CAT). XAT was much closer (91.3%le..no call)

=> Do or die. No more chances to be taken. Pressure from parents as well. Total attempts 21+26.
QA 146 (98.41%le)
VA 71 (44.xx%le??):O

Ye online CAT me kuch gadbad to hai. I'm not blaming IIMs. But something's horribly wrong n we have no way to verify that. U can't file RTI. U r forced to sign non-disclosure agreement else don't appear for the test. I also applied for NMIMS and it was OL test as well. Got 223 in that. SNAP was good 98.83%le. Never scored below 85%le in VA since 2007 (started taking coaching). Scored more in Sect 1 than in sect 2 for last 6 tests. How is that possible that CAT score indicates that approx 1.1lack people are ahead of me in VA now??

IIFT/XAT are some of the good exams left where u can actually verify ur score. Even XL accepted that there were wrong quest in GK(which I didn't know: Hats-off to XL ) unlike SNAP disaster last yr.

So friend, only one conclusion from 5 yr long struggle: Online CAT is hopeless. I'm not saying that I don't have faith in IIMs and CAT, but the online format is dubious, no clarity whatsoever. No wonder why nos of people appearing for CAT has declined from 2.5lac to 1.91 lac. Also there were increase of whopping 50% in XAT aspirants. (60k last yr and approx 94k this yr).

I think you must take a call now : whether it is going to be next year or GMAT or something else : bas aisa decision lena ki bad mein regret nahi hona chahiye !

leon bhai... gmat main kitna workex chahiye? and is it nt possbl 2 give both cat and gmat? i mean there is hardly much difference for preparation topic-wise, perhaps approach is different...
