@nits2811 ...I went to her studio in Redcliffe Square feeling uncomfortable and even embarrassed, thinking how awful to be an artist, having to put up with prospective buyers coming to gape, whereas writers never need to see anyone read their books....

isn't this somewhere hinting that the narrator is a writer and she hates prospective buyers reading her book..OA ans is correct but just asking..

I don't think so...coz it is a comparison between different ppl..one is a painter and other is an author...this line is brought in to bring the contrast...painters are generally annoyed whereas authors don't even have to meet their readers...and its too little info to really infer anything more than that...

yar check the frst line of the passage: In this passage, a British novelist and critic recalls a favorite painting. so it is already provided that the narrator is a writer. Hence the lines given in the questn are nt meant to suggest it....
