Tepper School of Business - Admit

Guys, I finally got some good news, a Tepper admit. Any PGs in/applying?

Guys,

I finally got some good news, a Tepper admit. 😃

Any PGs in/applying?

Congrats dude !!

I think MBA0X (where x = 5,6 etc) seems to be a damn lucky username to have

Whats your profile and where all did you app ?

Arun

Thanks pscho...
yup, its all because of the username... :)
then again, the 05 originally meant the Fall 2005 session, i changed it to mean the number of years it would take me to get into b-school

profile is nothing spectacular: 27/Male/IT/720

Other schools: Columbia - Denied as expected - my very first b school app
There are a few more schools, if I hear from them - you will hear about it (i'm a bit superstitious).

Thanks pscho...

hey, congrats! i`m looking at Tepper for fall 2007 myself. now that u have started a thread, i hope you`ll pour in more info!

Could you tell a little more about the kind of extra-currics/leadership stuff/social-service/whatever (if any) that you used to distinguish yourslef. any reflections on the applicant pool and the interview etc? any gyaan for fall 2007 applicants? i looked at Tepper's essays for fall 06 and i just couldn`t figure how someone could fit in so much info on 2 pages...but you`ve done a good job at it!

I got 1.5 years right now, will have 2.5 years workex at the time of apping...730 in GMAT (took gmat in dec 05). average acads, good extras...u think that`s good for tepper? i`m a lil concerned that the class size of Tepper has shrunk dramatically in the last 2 years and the average class gmat score is on the rise...so it`s getting very highly competitive to get in.

do write in with any advise, i hope we meet at Tepper someday

Congratulations buddy !

in fact the small size of the class has put me off. it is one thing to boast of small knit community and quite another to have a small gathering of like minded people. I have a feeling there is going to be a very sharp focus for the school. after all for such a small size, you really cannot take any chances with respect to any of your data points.
So i guess I am put off by tepper. nevertheless i still feel it is a great school and all the very best to mba05.
Cheers

Congrats d00d! Tepper's an excellent school. But, you dont need me to tell u that! :D

What's ur post MBA goal? Also whats ur brk up of GMAT? Tepper is an extremely quant oriented school. Way too much stress on quant.

Also, how are you planning to finance ur MBA, if u decide to take up Tepper, as they don't have a collateral-free loan program.

BTW, any schol? They have a big india specific fund.

Best of luck for the other schools! :)

i didnt quite understand what you`re saying here.

I'm not sure if I understand this.

A small class size can deter recruiters to some extent, but students? One of my MBA goals is to develop relationships with ppl from all over the world, not just for professional purposes. I am genuinely interested in knowing someone's story and sharing mine. Most students prefer small class sizes - Yale has some ridiculously low numbers (single digit) for some classes.

Perhaps you are alluding to the increase in selectivity due to a small class size - dont be put off by that.

Thanks for the wishes and wish you luck.

First off, Calvin and Hobbes is one of my fav cartoons so extra effort to respond to your questions....

Post MBA - I want to be close to technology, the more hardcore the better (still on the topic dont worry). Something in operations would be great. Then again, I have an interest in finance too so long term could have VC / PE in store. Will spend the next few mnths doing some RnD.

GMAT kinda even - 49 Q/ 40 V - 90 p/91p - 96p

Abt quant, I am a disgrace to the quant jocks. I will have to put in extra effort but one thing abt a quant-focused approach is that it stays with you. These things are difficult to pick up on the job.

I anticipated the finance issue a year ago - I left a job with an IT giant to work for a smaller company abt a year ago. I have 3yrs in the US so that shd help secure a loan w/o cosignor. Otherwise there is a plan B. I need to do a lot of research. I will share any insight in another thread.

Finally, I have a 'token' amount of 5K per year. Looking for more... :)
I'm not sure how much others have recd. Someone I know at Tepper got 8K last year.

Thanks!

whew!

well what i meant was essentially this:
while a small size can help you a lot - I am all for relationships (the straight kind that is) but for me class size is not such a big factor. I am looking mainly at the alumni base and its effectiveness.
and so Tuck and Darden having a small batch size cud suit me as they have almost a cultish following in their alumni base. however the same is not true to that extent with tepper. and with the base shrinking further i am not sure what they are aiming at. one of my queries on this regard was very well explained by the adcom...
anyway these are my comments based on my research. hence i will not draw further ire and fire on my comments.
its a great school like i said earlier. but i dont think I wud fit in.
and yes selectivity wud definately increase. the sharper focus on higher data points surely helped Tuck to be acclaimed as the best b-school. heck, their avg age is also 29.. that puts me off a bit. considering my profile and my aim.... again my perspective....
had sum things been different i wud have luved to be in Tepper myself. wish you all the luck. attaboy..

Cheers

Admitted to tepper . Based in delhi . Anyone else around drop me a message.
The largest batch i have been oart of is 80 and that left me with some serious friends . so 150 is big enough.

Good luck with your other apps

CTD,

Each application is unique just like the applicant. Its pointless to compare yourself with someone. You have your own circumstances to deal with. You might have been sincere in your wish to help others but did not get a platform where you can quote staggering statistics. What ever you have done, if it has been worthwhile for you and the beneficiary, it shd help.

Just so you get an idea:
I have a fair amount of extras, nothing really impressive - IEEE, organized xyz in college, some literary pursuits, college festivals, part of disaster management team, trained many consultants in my organization, participated social welfare projects through work.

Your GMAT is good enough, focus on the other aspects.
average acads, good extras...u think that`s good for tepper?
It may be good for HBS too. Only an application and ad com can determine that.

Dont sweat the competition, you have a headstart. The whole admissions 'game' has been a revelation. My last application was ten times better than the first. Practice.

Finally, I have just got into one program so far. Take my views with a pinch of salt...

and thank god for that... we could only handle as many ;-)

First of all congrats to chimni & mba05.

Secondly, I recieved an interview call from Tepper; most probably it would be telephonic. can u guys throw some light on what kind of questions can be expected in the interview?
