Hi guys............
well, writting about strenths and weakness is a major hasle in all the forms.............
therefore we can want to list some expected ans. etc
steps by which u analysed your strengths and weakness etc..........
regards
yash
hey i ll suggest you first analyse yourself completely with all those emotional, academic etc weakness and strengths......just make a list over a 2-3 days period.....ask your "good" friends to contribute.............then filter that list for those you would like to be on your resume......thats what i do....hope it helps
come on guys help all of us.................
some weakness we should NOT mention r:-
1. Time mis managment
2. Indecisiveness
Some Weaknessness we CAN mention:-
1. I cant handle people who r not serious about their work (It means u r serious)
thanks

If you can't handle such people, and you say that to the ad-com, it's not such a good thing. Also it doesn't mean that YOU're serious, it just means that you cannot HANDLE the ones who're not serious. So if you're asked to manage a bunch of totally lazy chaps and get work done from them, you'll be miserable at your job.
Not handling any kind of people may not go down well with the ad-com.

hey one thing i add is "want a PC with me everywhere" .....this might have some negative aspect too but as it has to be a weakness it ll definitely have some negative aspect, but this thing is totally irrelevant to the HR......so one can safely metion this
hey one thing i add is "want a PC with me everywhere" .....
That's really ur weakness?
this thing is totally irrelevant to the HR......so one can safely metion this
Yah, but dunno, it somehow seems neutral to me. Maybe it cud go against u, but not a lot, seems ok if it REALLY is a weakness.
My weakness is I am a perfectionist... But because of this virtue, I tend to miss due dates and this has been a problem for me and also my team...
Comments/Suggestions plz...
me thinks there is nothing u shud or shud not write......it`s about putting it across well.U shud rather try and give an impression that u r conscious of ur weakneses and make it a point to try and improve on em and not let em affect ur relationship with colleagues etc.....

PS: Look who`s talking..

strenghts:integrity,willingness to learn,unflinching determination
weaknesses:lack of patience,short temper,uncommunicative at times
This is what I wrote in the XL form.
Will it go down well?
Or will the 3rd weakness count against me while issuing a call?

Calling Psychodementia Arun!! ;-)
This thread is for you Buddy..
weaknesses:lack of patience,short temper,uncommunicative at times
That almost sounds like moping around. While your candor has to be appreciated, I don't think the bschool would reciprocate on that 😉

I was not alluding to verbal communication skills.
Never scored less than 99 in va/rc
It is just that I like to keep things to myself.
Probably not as good at networking skills as I should be.
Should I edit it?
I heard that they might have taken the printout already.
I'd really suggest you edit it if you can. You really dont want an Int. panel asking you why you are uncommunicative at times
.. Trust me .. that doesn't sound good at ALL.
hey guys...
do agree with alcatraz...i think its more bout putting ureself across and justifyin ur strengths and weaknesses to a proper extent...dats more than enugh...strengths and weaknesses depend more on personal opinion...and what one thinks bout himseld or herself...well there are certain things which yeah...i think mite come against u at the IIMs etc...so lets all take care of such cases...
Ashish
for weaknesses..
i think its a good idea to put in smthing where u can definitely proveo the interview panel that u hv seriously made an attempt to overcome ...
one thing i put in most applications was being not too confident facing a crowd..so when tht issue comes up i can defend myself by saying that i hv taken up part time teaching assignments ..volunteered to do presentations at office/college etc ..and hv over the years made an improvement..(hopefully will be able to make tht evident while facing the panel) ..but wll (humbly) add that i still need a bit more work on it...
spose u guys were the (stress) interviewer how wud u react to smthing lk this??
chip in with ur views..we'll get an idea of how to tackle such ticklish stuff(weaknesses)...

Strengths and Weaknesses.
My take on this is that be honest but not too brutally honest. I mean I don't want a C++ guru who can write great code but is also a demented sex-maniac who dresses up like a transversite at night and who has bat-wings for lunch. Ahem.....hope you got the drift
But at the same time, I feel most strengths and weaknesses kinda tend to be cliches' more often than not. Sample this :
(1) I love challenges (climbing mount everest is more challenging than doing an MBA)
(2) I am a perfectionist so blah-blah (great except that EVERYONE else who has apped with you also happens to have the same problem. I think more to do with human evolution
)
(3) I am a hardworker (there is a vacancy in Brahanmumbai Municipality Corporation for people to replace donkeys).
Well..........got the point right ?
WEAKNESSES :
-----------------
I would rather go for something more innovative. I remember that I had written something called "Inability to play the role of a planned actor at all times". Obviously every interview I would be asked the same thing "Planned Actor ? What is that ?" Remember that usually interviews last for around 1/2hr. The trick is to bait the interviewer by giving out such words so that he asks you stuff you know. All the better answering questions you *already* know th answer to than answering some arbit question "Prove pythogoras theorem mathematically" (BIM 1997).
So I had the usual yadda-yadda spiel to these types of questions which went something like :
"I believe that there are 2 kind of people. The planners who believe in the dictum 'If you fail to plan then you plan to fail'.........blah blah. And the actors who believe that planning is the surest way to fall into an analysis paralysis condition.....blah blah. I think in order to succeed in life you need to have an optimal mix of both.........blah blah"
Then another weakness I wrote was "Inability to channelize time, resources, potential on 1 direction" Basically it was with what I usually do - multi-task at a frentic pace. In the end I don't meet commitments always.
Try topping off the weakness part with something like "I believe that once identify your weakenesses and become aware of it, half the battle is won. I am doing so-and-so steps to rectify it"
That ways the panel realizes that this guy is atleast doing something to help himself.
STRENGTHS :
---------------
Here, again try to be innovative (I had something called "stick-to-it-iveness" in mine ! :P) If you have a strength which sounds cliched try to quantify it during the interview. Try to bring in the WOW-effect. Basically here is how the WOW-effect works. Sample this :
(1) Good communication skills
Q : How ?
A : Im a radio jockey for FM 91
(2) Born leader
Q : How ?
A : I started a company in 2001 and today it has a turnover of 1.5crores.
Get it ? The point is the interviewer should say "Gasp........wow !". I know the examples I took are pretty extreme. But just to drive the point through.
If you feel that you are sounding really cliched then there better be a damn good reason for that :)
HTH,
Arun
That was a great mail Psychodementia!
However I would like to add a few annas!
During my job interview they asked me, about my strengths. I said my resilience and failures! They said failures! I said yes, failures, because I try out new things in life and fail again and again so if I have failed a thousand times I know thousand ways of not doing things!(edison)
They tried to grill me, they said why should we take u...u have had a few backlogs during BE, aggregate 70%, we have guys waiting outside who have been toppers throughout and have 90% aggregate.
I replied with a smile, "Sir hats off to guys who have done that, however sir the software industry is stress related, and I have cleared 12 papers in a lot stress, I have delivered when it really mattered, I scored 80% when it meant the most, sir those who have never failed would never know how to bounce back, I am sure this company is not a bed of roses, we will have setbacks, so I guess I will recover faster and better than all those who have never seen failure, because I have done that many times in life. In this way I turned my weakness into my strength.
Then they asked if u have not studied during BE then what have u done?
I said, I had a professional music band, where I was the lead singer, I represented my college at various state and national level paper presentations, I represented my college in state level chess and won, I take part in quizzes and I write poems and prose in leisure. He was clearly impressed.
Then he asked about my weakness, I said chicken! I just can't resist eating chicken and think I may fall ill because of this! He laughed and said r u joking. I said seriously "No sir, chicken indeed is my greatest weakness." He said I am taking about character weaknesses...I said something on the lines of phschomenditia "I have many hobbies and aspirations and can't focus on one thing" He asked why? I said because I feel that there is a part of me that wants to sing, a part that wants to play chess, a part that wants to code, a part that wants to socialize...if I force myself into one thing I would be killing most parts of myself!"
At last he asked me "Mr.Som many people come here for interveiws, but u seems more cool that required, not tense or afraid at all, u dared to joke with the interveiwer, either u don't know the importance of this job or u don't respect authority.
I said "Sir it's not that. I felt that the best way I could present myself was to be natural...this is the way I am in real life, sharing a banter with friends but serious when it matters. Sir I believe that happieness brings success and its not the other way round...so I try and be happy in this way. And sir, I am here to prove that I am fit for a job in this company and u r here to take the best possible talents inside ur company, both of us r doin our respective jobs...so what is there to be nervous or afraid?"
And I was in!
