Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), established in 1969, is Government of India's space agency. Its main objective is to research and explore space and use it for the development of the nation.
From Aryabhatta, India's first satellite, and Rohini to Chandrayaan-1 and Mangalyaan missions, ISRO has come a long way forward. ISRO made history on September 24, 2014, when Mangalyaan entered the orbit of Mars becoming the fourth space agency and the only one in the world to have done so in its very first attempt. The mission was very economical and a huge success, pointing towards the presence of brilliant minds and great management within the ISRO. It gave us yet another special moment on February 15, 2017, when PSLV rocket lifted with 104 satellites, a world record. ISRO has achieved its status of being a reliable and economical space agency through its hard work, perserverance and great efficiency over the years.
ISRO have successfully launched many earth observatory, communication and navigation satellites over the years. Current satellite applications range from TV communication, homeland security, and telecommunication to urban planning, land management, and water management. Tele-education and telemedicine have made education and medical facilities more accessible. Better weather forecasting has helped the farmers to schedule their agricultural activities in a better way. These benefits have lifted the standard of living of common man which justifies the greater amount of money being spent in the field of space research.
ISRO is striding forward towards a brighter future as more and more science enthusiasts and brilliant minds join the revered organisation. With future missions like Chandrayaan-2 and Aditya-1, it is looking forward to explore further than before.
