Essay Topic (Tube's): Recurrent Floods : (Welcome suggestions)
While we tend to acknowledge the legend of Noah's Arc built to survive the onslaught of flood, often the learning remains in oblivion. We blame the unpredictable transformation of climate , by citing it to be the chief cause of any natural disaster , but the sooner we realise that its a natural reaction to man's actions, the better.
Geographical factors being the drivers of floods may not leave much to change the after effects, but one could always prepare to avert damages and loss of resources. For instance, in India's case all the past events of floods, whether it be Uttarakhand, Bihar, Assam, Rajasthan to name a few, offer a common piece of learning that 'Prevention is better than cure'. Apart from the huge loss of lives, it brings stupendous burden on the exchequer since those resources which could've been spent earlier to prepare for them are now used for relief funds having much less utility factor.
With the nation's quest to be in the race of developing countries, many steps and projects in the name of development tamper and disturb the ecological imbalance. As conceded by the National Green Tribunal also, the implementation of any risky project should always be accounted for any damaging intent , during its planning phase itself. Besides that, the Disaster Mgt response teams shall do their part by holding large scale awareness and rescue drill camps to bridge the gap between the unprepared and the prepared. Some temporary habitation colonies shall be approved and subsidised for those living i the low lying areas which are flood prone.
A single step towards the safety of masses qualifies to be appreciated more than many such development projects, since it encapsulates the true meaning of development of any nation.
