Prb with easy shifts of tier1:
-- analysis is too long to provide here but can think in terms of: even if 50% are non-serious candidates, they will perform well in easy shifts => thereby raise the avg and thus serious candidates will get less jump while in the tough shifts, non-serious wont perform well, lower the avg => serious candidates will get very good jump... also, mostly GK is tough for every1 => most will get btw 15-30.. but if the shift is tough in english, maths and reasoning while easy in GK, then good students anyhw will perform well in those 3 and do well in GK too.. so for a serious candidate, getting a tough shift (atleast tough in Eng, Maths n reasoning) gives atleast 10-15 marks advtg in tier1 itself as compared to serious candidate with easy shift... (usually time isn't a constraint in any of the shifts of tier1)...
-- i took mock of the toughest shift (4th march2nd shift): got 139 => normalised would be 175+)... obviously it has been months since i revised GK n yet i got more in GK here than my original paper.. in tier1, mine was medium shift, got over in 50 min, got 145 and normalised to 160..
-- see below of a typical serious candidate of CGL (who usually is weak in GK):
--- the prb with tier2 is that most are serious candidates and most don't get as much jump as in tier1 and hence u can't take much advt and compensate for tier1...!!! Normalisation in tier2 is actually not so skewed!!
-- Normalisation isn't the issue, huge no of non-serious candidates n huge no of shifts is the prb..
-- better solution is to make tier1 qualifying so that normalisation is done nly for 2-3 shifts composed mostly of serious candidates in tier2...
-- im pretty sure that most of the serious candidates of cgl would want a tough shift (esp tough in maths, eng n reasoning)..
