The ratio part will be common and constant for students of same shift, which is multiplied by value which we get by your score minus your shift average score , which is all together added to a common score which will be again constant for all others. The only variable part here is the subtraction part. If your score is more then you will obviously have better normalised score than other with same raw score. After normalisation let's say A's score is 495 then B's score will be 500 or 500+ So if your score is 320+ in mains then you will surely get an edge which will make the difference
