This year's cutoff being close to the last year's one does not necessarily imply that there will be no dip in the cutoff for final selection. The reasoning behind this is the following: 1. A sufficiently large number of candidates have been able to cross the 415 mark but how many have been able to cross the bare minimum for selection, let's say 430 marks till tier 2, is the question. 2. Arithmetic portion of the quant in t2 was doable and a very many people will be scoring 120 marks in quant easily. 3. Add 150(easily) of english in t2 and 145(average)in t1 and one is able to cross the cutoff after tier 2. 4. To score more than this was challenging this time given the very difficult advanced arithmetic part of quant in t2. To score above 150 in English wasn't a cakewalk either. 5. This may mean that a large number of candidates may be hovering around 430-450 and the selection posts may in fact see a reasonable dip in cutoff this time. 6. Last year, one could have easily scored 460-470 or even above as maths was very easy and getting even 180 didn't seem to be as much challenging(almost impossible)as this time. 7. So, the highest number of candidates may be clustering around a range which could be 15-20 marks below that of the previous year's and may result in reduced cutoff this time. Remember, the mean decides the cutoff, not the highest and lowest marks.
