Being the fastest growing economy of the world, INDIA’s demand for energy is never slowing down, and the country is doing a fair trade in that department, but does it doing sustainably..... Most of India’s power demand comes from non renewable sources. According to the ministry of power 70% of India’s power demand comes from thermal production, i.e coal based. Since its cheap and does not require state of art facility its most preferable and cost effective. Remaining 20% came from gas power plant and nuclear power plant. The rest 10% comes from renewable sources which mainly include solar, tidal and wind. Heavy dependence on non renewable source is not only harming environment but also causing strenuous pressure on country’s natural resource which are in limited availability. According to a survey, india adds 10% of global carbon dioxide just following china and USA. Air quality index shows 2 out of 10 most polluted city is in India. But not everything is lost in case of INDIA, country has taken some drastic steps to encourage use of renewable source, major solar plant is just established in states of anndhra Pradesh, and under the PARIS climate deal india pledged to cut down its emissions and to take step in promoting renewable energy source. While country is committed to reduce its dependence on natural resources but its still a long way to address it. And there may be a bright future ahead of it.
