It is because of this nature that we tend to forgive and forget easily our own historical trajectory.Whether this is good or bad is a separate issue,but this is a reality and this is an integral part of the Hindu/Indic way of life.For a general idea on the subject of deviant temple history,a great book would be 'Hindu temples: What Happened to Them' by Sitaram Goel,Arun Shourie,Ram Swarup and others.ย
Anyway coming into this specific Ram Janmabhoomi issue,the place where this temple is being proposed to be constructed,is what for generations Hindus have been identifying as the birthplace of Shri RamaChandra _/\_ Now why does this one place invoke so much of a sentiment across hindus of india,hailing from even elite corners like city pubs,to remote villages&farmlands? This is because the whole idea of Ramayana and Shri Rama have moulded our indic civilizational mindset in a way no other mythological or historical work could reach.Hence the idea of a grand temple in Ram Janmabhoomi arouses sentiments even in places like bengal ,north east or south india,where tantric traditions are more prevalent,and Rama is not exactly a common deity per se.THere are a large number of Hindus who would never see a Ram temple in their lives,particularly those hailing from eastern and southern parts,and yet they are respectful of Rama and Ramayana,because it has become a part of our indic civilizational DNA.Infact not only Bharat Varsha,the Ramayana shaped social and civilizational thoughts across Asia,from Bali,Java,to Japan, and even far north into Russia. The ancient Japanese legend of Momotaro is a retelling of the Ramayana.Again in ancient egyptian script,there is a word 'Ramah' which means a just king/godly ruler,who lives life like a hermit and looks after the poor.This word most probably is derived from Rama of India. And in South America,around Peru,the word 'Ramoh' is found in some ancient languages of that area,to refer to some kind of benevolent divine emperor from the far-east(BharatVarsha?) . Hence the Ramayana is not limited to the boundaries of BharatVarsha alone.ย
