Writing this for people who are confused about DA And inspector of posts in their preference order. I am working as an Inspector of Posts,tendered resignation recently,which is yet to be accepted.Dont go for this post,thats my advice.whether u would remain at peace or in war in this post,depends wholly on who ur Superintendent of Posts is,in ur allotted division. However,people who will get in railway mail services of Dept of Posts as inspectors,would enjoy decent life as well as a 4600 gp salary.Infact RMS inspector of dept of posts may well be the best inspectorial post in cgl,but getting RMS profile is a matter of luck,hence u cant rely on that,unless u have some relative working in important or influential position in the circle HQ of the circle where u would be posted.However,on a positive note,times are changing,every single branch office is getting connected and computerised with central server.Hence one major headache for postal inspectors,ie,physical inspection of branch offices once a year,will be over in near future,in 3-4 years at max.After Core System Integration and Rural Info&Comm Technology(CSI &RICT) are implemented totally across india,then this post will be more like a corporate managerial type,u will sit in ur office,and u will monitor ur sub-division from the office laptop/desktop provided to u.and another major positive point of this post is the respect u get within dept,and the freedom of working hours.For example,u need not go every day to office,no one is bothered,since u are the head of ur subdivision,and ur Superintendent of division wont leave his office 20 km away to visit u ,he has hell lot of work to do anyway :) U will get two overseers,or assistants from group d,for ur official work,and apart from that,u will be incharge of a workforce of 200-400 in a subdivision.In the past Inspectors used to get 4 overseers,but they were misusing the extra overseers,like sending them to buy things from market,or using them for dropping their kids to school.Hence dept reduced the number of overseers from 4 to 2.But 2 attendants at ur full time service in ur own office is not something u will get in most group b posts.Hence the intra-departmental respect in this post is probably the best,and no post in cgl gives u this much of administrative power or authority.For example,U can suspend any Branch Post Master (generally there will be 50-100 branch post offices under ur jurisdiction) for lack of discipline ,incompetence or financial frauds. Personally though,I never used the whip on any of my subordinates,because I sincerely believe in the principle that we should not cause harm to anyone unless absolutely necessary or unavoidable.and people are stealing crores in higher ranks,why should I punish a few humble village postmasters anyway?but the authority to do that remains wholly with u,ie,the Subdivisional Inspector. I pointed out the good and bad ,both sides,because some of u may have to join this post as a last resort,hence for those people I would say,that u will still be better than many private jobs out there.U will get around 55-60000 inhand per month,hence even though this is not the best cgl post,its still better than private sector jobs which will make ur life hell for giving the similar amount of salary :) Also one final thing,not everything about Divisional accountant is rosy.One of my friends is a DA,probably in 2016 he changed his dept to excise or customs.He was not happy with DA,because he had to indulge in corruption agnst his will,and even received threats from certain contractors.Good and bad are there in each and every post of cgl,atleast in the higher end inspectorial posts.In dept of posts,at the least,if u are honest,dept will not oppose u,rather honesty is respected here.But not so in many depts.If u have specific queries,then feel free to ask in the comments section.
