DEMONETISATION Recently our prime minister made a revolutionary move of demonetising 500 and 1000 rupee notes .By simple definition, Demonetization is the act of stripping a currency unit of its status as legal tender. The primary objectives are curbing black money,terrorism funding and counterfeit currency. 500 and 1000 rupee notes contribute 86% of total value of the cash in circulation. So demonetisation of these two denominations has positive and negative impacts in economy. World bank estimates parallel black economy comprises around 20-40% of India's GDP. Most of the unaccounted money used for corruption, scams,terrorism and drug trafficking are in the form of cash. So the unjustified high value bank deposits after demonetisation will be investigated and punished accordingly. This will be a deadly blow to this parallel economy. Demonetisation has also promoted cashless economy which will increase transparency and reduce corruption But the unorganised sector comprising small vendors, farmers, daily wagers faced huge hardships.Even the manufacturing and services sector faced a major hit eventually impacting GDP. But the subsequent remonetisation gave some relief to the recession There is a consensus that demonetisation is for a noble cause, but its implementation has received mixed reviews . Many criticise the immense pressure created on a common man and also it is unrealistic to investigate every unusual high value bank deposits.Even though with many setbacks, this experiment is regarded as a revolutionary initiative in fighting corruption and terrorism. The government has taken a calculated risk. It is premature now to assess whether the cost of the process outweighed its benefits. But for a noble cause, it is the duty of a citizen to raise upto the occasion and prove national interest is paramount. VERY 1ST ATTEmpt..critical evaluvation please...
