"The hardest thing in the world to understand is the income tax" -Albert Einstein. The present taxes in india are levied by both the central and state govts with centre levying sales, service taxes, customs and excise duites while the state levying the octroi,VAT,luxury, entertainment and entry taxes. This results in cascading of taxes, complex tax structure and tax arbitrage inducing the businesses to move into a lower tax territory.

So,Gst is the proposed system of taxation in India to merge most of taxes into single system of taxation. It is levied at all stages right from manufacture up to final consumption with credit of taxes paid at previous stages available as setoff. So,only value addition will be taxed and burden of tax is to be borne by the final consumer. All the taxes that are previously levied by the centre and state are now subsumed into GST.The present taxation system will continue for - alcohol under human consumption, electricity.petroleum products like petrol, diesel, natural gas.India being a federal country, implements dual GST with centre and state simultaneously levying taxes on a common tax base, with centre levying central GST and Integrated GST on inter state and intra state supply of goods and services respectively, while the state levying the state GST on inter state supply of goods and services. The tax rates would be at 4 slabs of 5%, 12%, 18% and 28%.Luxury and demerit goods will be taxed at 28% plus cess.daily needs will be taxed at 5%.

The benfits of GST include easy compliance, uniformity of tax structure, removal of cacading of taxes and improved comeptitiveness among industries reducing cost of locally manufactured goods and services thereby making our products competitive in the international market as well. GST will also make it easy for govt to administer the taxes thereby having better control on leakage and resulting in higher revenue efficiency, It also makes it easier for common man to understand the tax system in India. All these make the Introduction of GST would be a very significant step in the field of indirect tax reforms in India.

First essay

Topic: GST

GST i.e. Goods and Service tax is the biggest reform in the history of taxation structure after the reforms of 1991. It is being introduced with the slogan ‘One Nation One Tax’ and this slogan clearly shows the intent. GST will subsume a large number of indirect taxes henceforth and will provide a single, uniform taxation structure for goods and services.

The GST implementation is being controlled by the GST council which will decide the taxation rate for different range of goods and services. It is a mixed bag in the short term for the economy in general and the common man in particular. But in long term it will surely give a boost of about 2% to the GDP by 2019-20. GST will make most of the services like electricity bill, telephone bill etc costlier for the common man. Some goods like luxury goods will become dearer whereas some other essential items of consumption will be taxed lower than the present rates. So, the common man will see this with mixed emotions. More importantly, the tax administration will become simple, easy, and transparent and people will prefer tax compliance over tax evasion. With the implementation of GST, the indirect tax system of India will take a step in the direction of becoming progressive where the higher income groups which consume luxury items will have to pay more tax at about 28% compared to a common man paying 5% for essential items.

All in all, GST is a historic step towards progress and has the capability to take India towards a tax compliant society and a developed economy.

Essay on make In India. ....................................................................'No power of the world can stop an idea whose time has come'-Manmohan Singh............,............................................... Yes,the time had come when india pondered over its low manufacturing base, when high unemployment plagued the economy in the last decade, when despite of emerging as a superpower India languished in innovation R&D and exports. Thus an idea in the form of a policy named 'Make in India' was put in force in 2014 with the objective to increase the contribution of manufacturing in GDP from 16℅ to 25℅ by 2025,to attract foreign direct investment ,ease the doing of business,to increase the gdp and export of the nation,to increase innovation and skill of our youth and last but not the least provide employment to the burgeoning youth of the nation. ..................................................................Since then various steps such as-increasing the limit of fdi in various sectors, reducing inspector and licensing Raj, insolvency and bankruptcy code,Skill India, atal innovation mission,Standup and startup India and many other initiatives to make manufacturing attractive in India has been taken. But several concerns remain.Environmental laws have been relaxed in the name of ease of doing business ,which might prove disastrous.Manufacturing growth is still absymal .Land acquisition remains a headache and hostility towards foreign investment remains in some section of society. ................................................................Concerns aside, the vision is indeed bold and applaudable. What is needed is a supportive administration, fiscal and monetary stability and a participative citizenry to make the dream of India being a manufacturing hub of the world alive.

Write a letter to finance secretary, GOI on behalf of your company  requesting him to consider tax rates in gst to be business friendly and  at par with other growing economies of world.

XXXXX,

ABC pharmacy private limited,

Chennai.

Finance Secretary,

Government of India.

Sub:  Requesting to consider tax rates in gst to be business friendly and  at par with other growing economies of world - Reg

Sir,

I am the manager of this ABC pharmacy company and I would like to share some views on GST bill which is passed recently by Government of India. GST which means Goods and Services tax is a uniform tax levied all over India. Currently the tax slab is fixed as 18%. GST will replace all the existing indirect taxes such as Excise duty and Custom duty levied on manufacturing sector.

The rate is higher than the existing service tax of 15%. So consumers has to take the burden of additional 3% and it will cause the prices of all the essential commodities like food, medicine to increase. Small scale and Medium scale industries would badly affected due to this higher tax. Many states which are manufacturing base will suffer due to GST as the tax will be collected by centre.

So government needs to subsidize Small scale and Medium scale industries for atleast first few years to minimize the loss. Goverment shall give exemptions from GST for the basic commodities which is used by common people. Government had already announced that the loss which incuured due to GST will be given to states for the first 1 year and I request you to extend the period. GST will bring sweetness in future with the cost of early sufferings.

                                         Thanking you,

Chennai,                                                                               Yours faithfully,
