Wow!! I can't believe this. I'm through. After going through last years threads where cat 99.9x percentilers were rejected and seeing the current batch profile (which includes only toppers) i did not see any chance. Here's my profile:
Xth : 82.8%
XII th : 80.2 %
Graduation : 73% from VTU
Cat %ile : 99.76
Work-ex : 2 years in Nokia R&D;
Office achievements : Nil
Extra-curricular : Couple of national-level prizes in essay competitions(Again nothing compared to the guys who were coming there)
Well there're 2 reasons why i'm posting here.
1. I'm not taking up the offer and since no buffer calls have been given, atleast 1 movement is assured
2. To clear the air about profile and acads being crucial for selection into spjain. If you see my profile,its very average and especially for such a hotly contested area such as finance where 900 calls were given for 60 seats. This is one thing i've noticed in all the other interviews as well. They see only the hunger in you to learn and to excel. Rest everything follows.
This post may sound didactic but i was tired of everyone saying the same old stuff that without acads its very difficult to get into any good bschool. Unfortunately the coachings have also started believing in this and ingrain a negative mindset into the call getters.
Finally congrats to all the fellow converters and wish you make it big in such a nice bschool. Hope to compete against you guys in the fests

Friends, I had pretty good acads but i'd like to say that good acads nodoubt give you an advantage, but as someone rightly pointed out a couple of posts before, they look for the passion in you and hunger for learning.
I'm from an engineering background and a switch over to finance after being 5 months in the s/w industry was questionable. But one needs to be pretty sure of why does he/she want to take a particular specialization. If you're clear about that, the rest automatically follows.
The passion comes in, the hunger for learning comes in, you become articulate in front of them and ultimately you're able to get the nod from them as far as final selection is concerned.

But one thing I believe which scored for me is my attitude.
Believe me puys it has made a great difference in my.
I am very average according to standards but I have never thought any
negetive aspect about myself and others around me from the time I have understood myself .It can bring so much changes in your life that you would not believe until you start doing it.
