New year, new start. The SNAP date is out - 20th Dec, 09 (not officially but on SIBM site only) so lets get cracking. Now I've read all about the course, campus, entrance on PG/orkut communities from the previous batches. Seen some aspirants take role of the guiding seniors - lets hope the same happens with us :)

Seniors, some help please segregate the myth from fact:
1.What score is good enough? (Myth: 39+, good eng score)
2. How imp are references? (Myth: Pretty important in the next rounds - from media personalities in the main stream)
This one's quite hazy as to corporate or freelancers, ranging in which fields, etc - plz clarify
3. What kind of home assignments can we expect? (No one's spilling the beans on this one - i mean c'mon don't tell us the answers, just the questions will do )
4. Residential course/find your own place? ( The website doesn't say anything about a residential course, but some of the older posts mention that)
5. How're the placement like? Not just in terms of pay packages but the quality of jobs being offered. Read up that the director of the course had mailed the aspirants the norm packages are 2.0 - 2.5 lacs.

These are a few questions to start with. Peers, please add.

hi puys,
now its high time to make up our mind and soul to decide which forms are we going to fill because we all know that each form costs us around Rs. 1000/.so its better to fill our targeted b-school forms.For the MBA aspirants especially interested in media field......Mica is the mecca for them but after Mica only SIMC strikes on our mind.

Admission Process

1st Round: Appear for SNAP (Symbiosis National Aptitude Test), scheduled on 20th December 2009. For more details refer to the website Symbiosis National Aptitude Test (SNAP) for admission to Symbiosis Postgraduate degree programs

Application Form: Visit Symbiosis Institute of Media & Communication for the admission form, corresponding instructions are listed alongside.

SIMC gives a varied weightage to the SNAP test component scores and does not go by the aggregate SNAP score only.

2nd Round: After the SNAP test results are declared, shortlisted candidates qualify for the 2nd round which is held in Pune. This consists of group discussion, home assignmentss and a personal interview.

ELIGIBILITY - Graduates in any discipline from a recognized

University with 50% (45% for SC/ST) aggregate are eligible.

Applicants expecting their final year results may apply. Their

admission will be provisional and subject to furnishing proof of

graduation with 50% by beginning of the Second Semester.

Master of Mass Communication (MMC): 120 seats

Master of Business Administration (MBA): 120 seats

yes,you heard it absolutely right.....they look for a decent score in Verbal part...
Selection is based on your overall performance in SNAP,GD,PI and your profile..

Hi Spatacas, It wont be fair to rate the insti on package... we are not a B-school where every students joins as a management trainee and therefore on the same scale.

We have four specialisations (AV, Journo, PR and Advt) and the each offers a range of options when u finish the program. An AV student can become join a production house, television channel, news channel, movie production, etc etc. He will either be editing films, handling cameras, producing shows, writing scripts or reporting live for a news show. Same rule applies for all specialisation. I was in Batch 2008 and i can tel ya that no two ppl in my specialisation class are doing the same job, believe me.

All jobs have a different levels of remuneration. Some start good and increase slowly, some start small and make big bucks faster! If you are looking for media as your career, please keep in mind that it works little differently than an normal MBA career.

You gotta be more specific about what is your calling.

Just like others, Works ex is given weightage but its not compulsory. The selection process involve SNAP, GD, PI, submission of written assignments (as per the specialisation applied for).

For advt. there could be assignments like ad campaign plan, account planning and designing etc. This will be used to evaluate how much you understanding and knowledge you have of the chosen field as well as your eligibility.

Call me Abhi... I am not too sure of the weightage allocation. Being an alumnus, there are few things I am not updated on. Your high school marks will have weightage too. But generally, bigger chunk belongs to GD,PI etc.

For the batch profile, lets just wait for one of the existing students to respond, i dont know if its available online

My Xth marks are 83
XIIth:72

I hav 30 months experience in IT as a s\w developer.
Coming to the point,,prep have started now n have heard a lot abt SIMC.
I wanna change my job,,,was reading the posts abt SIMC,,,few depressing,few encouraging.
Well, m not worried abt d initial package,but can some1 tell me whethr I can switch from IT to Comm,as SIMC offers Mass Comm.M I eligible?

I am really interested in Media n Adv n Comm,,,but as d fate f maxo Engg,I landed in2 It...now wanna come out.

I can see many experienced ppl on this thread,,,,,n ofcourse u must hav herd a lt f stories like mine b4..

So kindly Help asap.

hello, i`m a fresh grad wit my degree in telecomm engineering.. .... i`m interested in pursuing a mba degree in media and communications....what would i need to achieve ( in terms of scores) to apply for comm management in simc also will they be looking for work exp and exp in the field of media cos i have none....... also how are the placements.... the site states 100% placement ...... but this usually is never true.....thanks alot this forum has already helped wit alot o info.... would lik to know more though

no one teaches to be an entrepreneur.If u have that zeal to be an entrepreneur search for new avenues in media and work on that.The program in simc gives u everything what u want in media and its up to u to choose what u want......

HI there,

I m a b.tech in electronics and commn. and have had a brief stint with an IT company in Bangalore for 2 years. Always had a creative streak in organising and managing events and promotion campaigns were always I enjoyed being a part of... interested in getting into media advertising now, would like to know about the SIMC in terms of placements and packages... we all are passionate abt our work and thats what i have observed in most of the replies... anywhich ways if sum1 can take the initiative to tell atleast an approximate range of package that is on offer at the completion of the program.... ? MBA is always a huge investment of funds and jus like any other decision of our life, we always like to know a calculative return factor.... (not to hurt the passionate sentiments abt the course...)
