Hi ppl,
I wanted your opinions about which inst is better amongst these 2 if I am looking for a specialisation in marketing???
I also wanted to know about XIM-b, also, I have heard that XLRI maths is more difficult than CAT maths, is it true???

Sibm site does not mention anything about hostle facilities, does it not provide one???
Scmhrd site says " Internet facility is not provided in the hostel rooms but plug in for computers are available."
What is this plugin???

Hey Shubs!!

Having taken that XAT 1ce..this much I can tell...XAT Quant isn't 'pure math' thingie...its heavily on Reasoning..typical AR questions that you normally see in DI in CAT turns up in Quant section...well its difficult in the sense that you would have say 1 type of question and 8-9 questions based on that!! So either u get full set or you dont get anything!!

In 2001, they had sectional time limits besides GK section and a essay (I guess they didn't want to spare any forms of torture! )

I guess X-Man and others who lasted that X-am can give us a better picture! :)

Well XIM-B is pretty decent ..but IMHO not as good as XLRI!! But pretty decent! :)

regds,
Praveen
PS: Sorry PG...that was a typo!!

Well XIM-B isn't pretty decent

Err.. you meant "is" or "isn't" ?
Scmhrd site says " Internet facility is not provided in the hostel rooms but plug in for computers are available."
What is this plugin???

a plug-point to plug-in the computer to get plugged!

Sibm site does not mention anything about hostle facilities, does it not provide one???

hey shub...
sibm doesnt provide hostel facility....most of 'em end up stayin at this place called Shivaji Housing Society....around 2-3 kms away from the college...

abt the plugin at scmhrd....its pretty much wut anil has to say abt it
although the institute did promise the batch of 2004 that an internet connection will be provided in all the rooms...they havent!!

cheers!
😁

Scmhrd is a better deal......imagine an mba programme that isnt fully residential!!! somehow doesnt sound good to me. that being just one of the reasons!

Zeus

a plug-point to plug-in the computer to get plugged!

So it just means a power point 😃 does it ???

Well XIM-B is pretty decent ..but IMHO not as good as XLRI!! But pretty decent!

Thanks for that info .

Scmhrd is a better deal......imagine an mba programme that isnt fully residential!!! somehow doesnt sound good to me. that being just one of the reasons!

Yeah, exactly, I want to go only for the residential programs.
shub001 Says

yea...but u can use Word, Excel and Access too..
imagine an mba programme that isnt fully residential

hello..Iam a first yr student of SIBM...well even the supposedly famed NMIMS doesnt provided u accomo....and buddy when u gotta spend around 12 to 14 hrs a day completing ur assignments, projects and attending classes,u dont have the time to catch a quick nap in the noon

nothing demeaning..but I guess its high time someone cleared the wholelot of confusion bout "symbiosis" brand.....

SIBM was established in 1978 and as per recent ratings its ranked 6th(should be around 10 or 12 frankly speaking)...boasts of alumni frm cos like gsk etc....our batch strength is far less than that of scmhrd..

SCMHRD has been very aggressive in promoting its brand as compared to SIBM..

Now that SIBM ( and not SCMHRD) comes under deemed unversity, it is better prepared to introduce new courses in the curriculum and things like that

as far as placements is concerned SIBM & SCMHRD are almost at par, with SIBM ruling the roost as far as HR and Marketing concerned...

lots to say...comments invited

Now that SIBM ( and not SCMHRD) comes under deemed unversity, it is better prepared to introduce new courses in the curriculum and things like that

And this is the reason that SIBM cancelled its own test? BTW what new courses are they introducing?

I'd like to mention a couple of things about SIBM that ticked me off this year:
1. Their bulletin did not look very professional. How can you show a student in the bulletin wearing a yellow Levi's T shirt with blue jeans and streaked hair attending a class, in front of a board with a pie chart drawn on it. And that student was representing the MBA batch and not MBA-CM.
2. Stereotypical questions in the application, like "Where do you see yourself 5 years from now / 10 years from now", for which there wasn't adequate answer space provided. There was half a line provided to answer "where you see yourself 5 years from now" and one and a half lines to answer "where you see yourself 10 years from now"
3. Spelling mistake: Question 17: "My 5 strengths and 5 weakness" well the plural form of weakness is weaknesses.
4. Who ate up Question number 18 ???? After question 17 the next question was question 19 !!!

Guys I would like other's opinion on which is the better of the two instis. SIBM or SCMHRD... Are there any official rankings comparing these two instis? I'm curious to know because I'm thru SCMHRD and if luck goes my way and I make it theu SIBM I would be one confused soul ( I know I shouldn't be counting chickens before they hatch 😃 )

hi abhishek

i have friends in a number of good b-schools & taking their opinion SCMHRD wins hands down...not one person ranked SIBM above SCMHRD though the general opinion is that SIBM is definitely improving it's stand.i don't have any hard core data to support this but maybe people from SCMHRD & SIBM could throw light on the placements, academic environment et al there & then you could make your choice.

ATB & congrats for making it SCMHRD

sibm is not even a close second to scmhrd, neither placement nor quality of life.
nor the academic rigour

Goos work ppl.... nice to hear u got thru...i did'nt make it thru the gt. Ne ways for a fact i know SCMHRD is much better as compared to SIBM.
Cheers.....

Hey there ppl,

too much credit given to scmhrd there..and ppl writing a lot against sibm..

let me give u guys some "insider" views...

when companies come down to the campus..would u like to apply to ur own choice of companies or to all companies (forcibly)???? former SIBM, latter SCMHRD..

yup.. being a part of the placement team formerly i know exactly what goes on there..

as someone has said that they want an outsiders view..im telling u that its not possible to know much from outside.. beside.. i had the choice of both.. i picked SIBM...many reasons...

residential program...the SCMHRD "campus" indeed is a beautiful one..situated wayyyy outside the city... but the campus is shared by SIIB, as well as SCIT..each of thes three give out the prospectus showing the campus as if they are the only one there..each of the 3 have 2 floors each in the bldg..so imagine if u climb another floor u have come to a whole new MBA institute..
However the whole SIBM bldg of 5 floors is fully only for SIBM students...
i do admit that we do lack as far as hostel infrastructure is comcerned..not good..

Ok the students at the hinjewadi campus (thats the SCMHRD/SIIB/SCIT campus) are not allowd to owm bikes..or atleasst park them in..u can only have "bicycles"
At the first place the campus is situated kms away from the city..and then u gotta use "bicycles"!! yes they do claim to have a bus service on demand but it goes 2-4 times a day at its own predetermined time coming back again at its own time.. believe me.. u wil realise these things after coming here that freedom is absolutely essential...

I have to admit...finance is not that great as of now at SIBM...HR rulz the scene all the way. and mktg also is good..(me not commenting anything abt SCMHRD here)

another point...the batch strength at SIBM is small..120+40(MBA-CM) whereas at SCMHRD its double.. how can they ever place those many number of ppl in the same time as we do...

and lets face it ..alumni strength becomes the biggest thing for any B-School..Sibm has to have a better greater network in this sense coz simply its older...

yup and about studies...as shubham has already said it.. that we are a deemed university so teh freedom to alter courses is phenomenal..there are a few instances where the students have dememded a subject to be included.. and that has happnd (of course ppl we are talking of SIBM..not IIM which has 63 electives)
and finally the admin.. another glitch for both instis.. not too great...

look ppl anyday.. sibm is not the 6th insti..its not the best 2nd rung institute.. but when u compare it with SCmhrd.. it does make better sense to take SIBM..

hello guys,

well a lot of things have been said in comparison of SIBM and scmhrd.
well there is nothing to compare believe me !!!

first of all scmhrd is not your everyday MBA inst. Its unconventionally
different.Hostel facilties are good. And as far as "insider views" of some great
AGENT are concerned its total crap. No body in scmhrd is forced to sit for and
company's selction process.believe me as i m in scmhrd. And the Mr. Spy is
talking about "bicycles" and all just shows how professional he is
regarding the seriousness of an MBA program.SCMHRD creates professionals
In stead of streesing more on other seriuos issues like salries offered and
other facilities offered if you talk about bicycles and all it shows how professional
you are.

And one very important thing SCMHRD is a 11 year inst. while SIBM is more
than 25 years old and already 80 % of the ppl in this forum have said that SCMHRD is better.
Well let me talk professionally here ,if i rephrase the above sentence i'd
say that SCMHRD is marketed in a better way than SIBM.An 11 year old inst. headed
by a single person (Mr Pillai) is getting more attention than a 25year old
inst. And its been mentioned by Mr Spy that SIBM has 120+40 students
and scmhrd with its two campuses has almost double the number of students
but still scmhrd was able to place all the students last year which is
not a joke and thus year only 25 odd students are left to place who
will be placed eventually.

The only thing that SCMHRD lacks is the alumni just because its still in
inafancy stage. But as time passes SCMHRD will emerged as one of the best
insts. of India.

There are lot of things good and bad about both the insts. that SIBM and
SCMHRD. While scmhrd's atmosphere is a restrictive kind of atmosphere that of
SIBM is quite free one.

But i can tell one thing if placements are the only criteria than i'd
say go to SIBM.

SIBM is not a bad inst. at all but the thing is that both the insts. are
uncomparable. So by giving some false facts to try and compare both the
insts. is not at all fair.

SCMHRD is not a deemed university but as far as exams and syllabus are concerned
its totally in the hands of the diector. Its an autocratic system.
IN the second year syllabus setting by students themselves.

Well thats all i have to say.

both the insts. do not need some SPiff's or some shreya's experts comments
for proving which one is better. You wud just have to be here to experience
the real thing.

regards

hi this group didn't come to some consensus so can anyone throw more light on it maybe with some hard facts and not personal opinions???

if everybody has only personal views to exchange, pls swap mail ids guys!!
the views youre presenting are really playing havoc with the minds of ppl for whom only one call has materialized.
yours truly included.

now tht i have been to scmhrd`s campus. i shud share my views.
u cant use bicycles in the campus its not an IIT but hey u can park ur bikes outside and use to visit city, tht is,if u find time for it.i landed there at arnd 8 pm and there classes were going on,it got over by 9.30 pm.
saw only ppl frm siib or scit playing basket/volley ball scmhrdians dont have time for it.
my conversation with one of my aquaintances i chanced upon at the insti.
me : hi
A : oh hi ,u r joining this place!!
me: yeah am here for the medical.
A : take my sincere advise dont come here.
me: cmon this used to be ur dream institute, wht happened now.
A: its impossible to survive here.
me: oh thts good ,if we r put to rigour we will eventually shine.
A: u remember i used to be the most optimistic person to get here and if u have ne other call just go there .
me: i find the place nice ,is the placement not good?
A: oh the placement is never a problem..survival is..the hep symbi we know of is sibm ..there u have all the liberties, none here.
me:cleaning my toilet wud be a lit tough but thts just a first time hitch..moreover if i get foreign placement i have to do it eventually.
A: its not just tht , imagine mr pillai said in his welcome speech if u survive here for 2 yrs i will give u good placements.
me: u cant run away frm hard work can u and its just for adding value to u .
A: the academic value is zilch...u know the permanent faculty is nill and the visiting faculty r more for HR issues.
me:thts coz u r in HR
A:no its a joke here..all specialisations has more of HR related issue taught.
me:r these ur personal opinion
A: the whole batche`s .
another girl standing next nods in affirmation
me: where r u doin ur summers.
A: " " and tht wud be ur toughest time .when u join and u wont find any seniors arnd for one month.
me: i was keen to join army somehoe a regime suits me more .

gist of it all is tht i am not convinced.wud join tht place if given a chance...but when i compare it with nmims..."hello".. ppl say nmims started better and is on declining curve while scmhrd is getting better.
met subh001 during medical...the guy credited with starting threads with max replies.
