It's sort of metaphorical, as tools become obsolete/outdated you write obituaries on them not literally but in the sense that they have been declared to be dead/faded.

1. B sits 2 places to the right of A
2. B sits 2 places away to the right of A

(Consider both of them sit facing north)

They are the same. I heard there was some confusion in SIMcats regarding this but I'm more than sure they mean the same.
