Hi ppl,

thought of starting this thread to possibly answer all the queries that u may have about SCMHRD...will try to answer them as fairly as possible

one thing that i would like to say here is that the institute realyy has come up by leaps and bounds....this is perhaps reflected by the kind of companies that have been coming here this year....i mean it when i say that they are among the "best"...

yes, i agree that scmhrd has made a place for itself among the best b-schools...
but, there is one thing that has puzzled me...
i have seen in a b-school rankings given by a magazine, the institute is often ambigously ranked 6 with the name "symbiosis"... i think this was in last years india today rankings (not sure)... which institute are they referring to ? sibm or scmhrd??

this debate has been continuing for some time now.. and i am not sure which institute exactly is the best one. i am applying this yr and want to be sure i get into the better one.
please give ur insight.

thanks

radix

exactly....Radix...even i hav the same doubt....
when the rankings say...'symbiosis' is 6th(0r whichever rank) best B school....
which symbi institute r thy referring to??
or they consider all symbi instis as ONE?!
It wuld be helpful if some 'known mind' can throw some light:)

Hi can u plz tell me what is the scope for a 2 yr exp guy in s/w industry with current ctc around 5L in scmhrd or sibm.
One of my friend is in L & T infotech and earning 5 L says that SIBM has good lateral placements.

plz put some light on issue.

hey answering your question its true that SIBM offers lateral placements......secondly coming to debate over SIBM n SCMHRD, well this has been goin on for quite sometime now and both are equally good with obvious advantage to SCMHRD with the kind of campus they have and residential course being offered which is anyday better but i think with SIBM moving to new campus next year things would at par.......

SIBM

welllllll....... its an eternal lasting confusion.... which symbiosis' ranking is being shown.

personal opinion: How does it matter..........? Do you really trust those rankings?? i don't . but yes if you do... then consider them only of two institutes combined.... SCMHRD and SIBM. They are the two flagship institutes of Symbiosis MBA programmes. believe it or not. The very reason of IIMs stopping to participate in rankings are these very rankings and the way they are conducted.

ICFAI, **** above IIMI? FMS? C'mon how can you even think of believing or even considering such a statement? Who knows that the magazine guy might charge these institutes something to give them a good ranking....(hey! no offences... just thinking loud).

So please refraing from believing such gradings is my personal recommendation. talk to people of these insti. ask about placements figures from your friends and average crowd work ex, age etc.....

And yes... SCMHRD has Laterals where the "baap log" sit and they negotiate .... cus it never looks like an interview for people with work ex.... they talk some jargon and discuss their salary and are booked... believe that???

the Devil

yeah..devilsgod...thanks...tht was quite helpful....

and also...i didnt know abt lateral placements being a plus point...

and can u throw some light on specializations at scmhrd....the faculty...placements for each specialization...
will the median salary mentioned in website include all the specialization recruits sal?
does HR spec ppl gain advantage in placements?
me...personally not interested in HR...so wht other factors do i have to look into at scmhrd?

Hey guys!

I am in my final year BE (comp).Cud some1 pls tel me which course i shud consider in SCMHRD - HR or IT and systems?

I know SCMHRD is known 4 its HR, how bout the other courses?

Also , cud some1 elaborate o the relative prospects of each of these fields?

Thanx!

hey guys

If you are an engineer well both it and hrm can be the options.

1> IT and Sys is a techie branch and has lots of tech related subjects. No no no...not coding but you will learn SAP, MIS, Operations in services industry, data mining, and helluva other courses, some of it will be taught by consultants from infosys and MBT and other IT companies.

2> Don't take HR, if you don;t have a heart for it. It will look dry at the outset for those not interested. Marketing, It, FIN, Ops are good and solid in insti. You can count on them to fetch you a good job but above all a good profile.

3> see salary and all is on net. you can find that. at the end of the day, people go below median also rite? so don't bother. Roughly, all branches reflect the similar average and median. you just need to try to be able to be above average, rest i have never seen any problem in SCMHRD.

4> Good and very good companies come to campus and also some average ones... i am being practical and honest. Its 80% of lucky ones who will raise the median always. but now a days, even a lower one (for the last 5-10 guys)won't be much less than say 4lacs p.a., but i guess being so below average you deserve nothing better rite?

5> Laterals in a wonderful option for people with work ex and god they command a value. i have a junior who has 70 months work ex and i am a fresher. you can talk to us an see the difference. But still he has his own USP and i have my own. " each to his/her own"

6> Faculty: well a permanent faculty for every branch and then temporary faculty from industry and Guest Lectures, Modular lectures again by time tested hard core proffesionals. Some very boring, but still a lot of knowledge on offer.

any more queries... shoot... might be a bit late in responding but will surely reply.

warm regards

Hi,
Can i know the fees for SCMHRD,a friend of mine told me that it is around 5.5 for 2 years. Is that true?
Pls reply back
Cheers,
Frank

fee for the batch of 05-07 is 4.18 lac for the two years....the figure of 5.5 is tpp far fetched..

as far as ranking are concerned.....i dont care two hoots and dont think u guys shud do too....and yeah..i intended this to be a thread for queries on SCMHRD....not for comparisons...we are having too much of it i guess.....

Anish

Hi,
Cud u plz giv me an idea about the kind of scores and percentile that was needed to get a call from SCMHRD?
As far as I am concerned I am a fresher
95% in class 10
84% in class 12
79% in B.tech
What kinda percentile do u think is required by someone with a similar kina profile...
Kindly giv an approx idea.

Thanks a lot.

Take care.

Hey devil! Thanx for the comprehensive reply. It sure helped me get a fair idea of what to expect at SCMHRD.

I hav a basic doubt about the entrance exam. I hav heard that you first have to choose a specialization, with each having its own cutoff( is this true?) Suppose i give systems as my choice while appearing for the exam, can i redirect myself towards HR in the second year?( thereby having the best of both worlds! )

By the way, u seem to hav misuderstood me earlier. I am more inclined towards HR than systems. Only factor to be considered is that whatever you mentioned regarding systems is quite familiar bcoz of my Comp Engg backgroud.

SO, could u pls suggest, as to which would be a better bet ( at SCMHRD) in terms of both job profile and growth prospects?

Thanx a ton!!

Hey dude..

I t used to happen earlier that u had to choose ur specialisation.. now u have electives in place.. u study watever u want to.. wide choice of subjects..
Nd moreover no discriminative cut off for different specialisations

Hey dude,

Your doubts are valid. SCMHRD had a system where every branch had its own cutoff but that is gone for the past 2 exams. Now you just need to be in a current pool of people selected and then come to institute and study subjects, gather knowledge and take what you want.

About specialisation, SCMHRd has a cafeteria approach. you can have a dual or a triple MBA and can sit for Max 2 specialisations for summers. i.e. in your case if your interest is HR and you are good at systems... You take most of the subjects pertaining to these two and only those which interest you the most.

Its is no more a rigid SCMHRD. Much better with a corporate outlook. Gone are the days of specialists and time is on for generalists. i am a major in Marketing, IT and SCM. Will be in a consultancy shortly.

So what the heck? why to think that much? Just be cool and don't think too much about specialisation. MBA is like an IV drip attached to your veins... the more you take it.... more it hurts but more strength it gives you...... so come free minded, take your time and just walk over others in performance...

I hope it helps. Get back if you have any other doubts.....
