Hi Guys...
I recieved my admit for Schulich Winter 2011 last week. They had promised me the same around in May mid, but the official letter came in a week back.
I am still contemplating whether to join or not based on if I am offered any scholarship. I am also still a little unsure about job conditions post mba in Canada.
Another thing I would like to know is what are the ways I can fund my MBA and options for requesting scholarships . Can anyone please guide me on these?
My profile is
Work Ex- 5 years
GMAT - 700
TOEFL - 112
Thank you

Any can throw light on pros/cons of joining Schulich in Jan session compared to sept session
any idea about schols available for Jan intake?
Amidst tighter visa/work permit regulations in other countries and availability of lots of post MBA opportunities, Canada's Schulich MBA is one of the best option availabe in world right now for Indians. Since 50 years, Its highly ranked and has excellent methodology of teaching Management...
Blindcurves: With these kind of credentials, why aren't you trying for US B'schools? They are far more well recognised both in North America and globally. I understand Canadian MBA is quite restrictive in terms of global recognition, and canadian ecy, while stable, is not exactly growing either to create many more beffiting jobs.

"far more" ==> Not true
Schulich is truly "Global Business School" and it has strong presence in India too !
Joining Canadian B school is the best deal right now. If you miss your offer, its going to be extremely competitive in future for sure.

Look at the bigger picture: The total cost outlay is quite similar to a Tier 1 US B school. Having a presence in another country does not make a B School global, its the students that they have placed internationally on the basis of their campus recruitment that counts. Ambitions to work in India do not justify the money involved, you'll be better off going to a tier 1 Indian B school, where atleast you'll have all the top notch co's coming for recruitment.
Planning to work in Canada: While canadian ecy is still stable, fact of the matter is that it is stable because it is very staid and flat, with just not enough jobs. It is also production/export oriented and not services..so a career in banking/finance/mktg is out. Besides, the high taxes and zero saving potential make it extremely uneconomical. US, one year down the line would've opened up significantly, plus the global recognition with co's recruiting on campus for offshore locations. With the kind of money involved, US MBA is any day a sure shot winner.
Hi ,
I am sure that you are not aware why Schulich is called Global Business school. Your perception about the criteria for a school's Global stature is right. The fact is Schulich is highly reputed in CANADA and abroad(It has exchange partnership to more than 50 top schools around the world). It is more than 50 yrs old and their grads are spread all over the world...
Regarding Economy: Canada is stable .That itself is big thing. Jobs in Banking/finance/Mktng vertical is huge. Regarding befitting, the fact is they have shortage of work force since they became developed. Even now MBA graduates in Canada are able to secure job a bit easier than US/UK schools(You can contact current and ex students of respective schools for the same).
UK : You will not get the work permit or jobs easily now. I have talked to many ivy leagues and FYI, skipped offers for the same reason.
US: Situation is still grim and no body Knows whether rock bottom is passed. Many of my batchmates are graduating from top b schools. They have a common notion: If you are thinking of MBA in US, delay by two years atleast.
Bottom line is that any country will first prefer their own citizens for job offers in case of shortage of same. They will surely like foreigners to invest huge money for MBA but return to their home country post MBA in case of scarcity of jobs. And for Indians, CANADA is best place to study MBA as of now. More over, Canada is a alternate route to US. You can move to US seamlessly when situation improves.
These are my takes from situation around, the criteria will change from person to person based upon his/her inference from the situations. most importantly, you will have own criteria to decide school and country.
