GST- goods and services tax is an indirect tax that brings together most of taxes imposed on Goods and Services under a single banner.
this is contrast to the current tax system in India
First time This was proposed in India in 2006-07 by P Chidambaram where taxes are levied separately on goods and services. Experts say GST likely to improve tax c- by and boost the Indian economic development by breaking tax barriers between states and integrating India in a uniform tax structure; however end consumer bears this tax as he the last person in supply chain.
Under GST tax burden will divided equally between manufacturing and services through a lower tax rate by increasing tax base and minimizing exemptions. It is expected to build transparent corruption free tax administration in India GST will be applicable at destination point not at various point from manufacturing retail as GST will be applicable at point of sale only currently manufacturer has to pay tax when finished product moves out of factory, and the product again taxed at the retail outlet when sold .GST is payable only at final point of consumption.
It is estimated that India will gain $15 by implementing Goods And services tax it would promote export, raise employment, boost growth. By implementing GST indian will able to counter the corruption at extend level because manipulating taxes will not be easy and it will play an important role to end "Inspector Raj" as said by Prime Minister Modi . It will divide tax burden equally between manufacturing and services
However GST has few negative sight also , as per experts Keeping Real estate out of GST ids a bad idea as credit will not be available taxes paid on inputs in construction such as cement steel . Construction expenditure is 40% out of total investment and that is not small change Bringing real estate under GST will raise investment and boost growth.
At the starting of recent parliamentary session Mr modi expected that GST will get Applicable from this year. In spite of having so many positive signs for country's growth GST is still in queue of final approval of Parliament .
