Well, If we were to believe in our centuries old vedas, then there are 330 million deities. And we, the Indians, surely must have succeeded in creating atleast one image of each god somewhere in atleast 1 temple in India. #Respect
But If I were to think of 1 god in India, then I too have an image.
He is 5.5 inch tall, currently 38 years old, lives in Mumbai, and plays Cricket for India.
And no. Cricket is not my religion
Talk about a temple, then I hope lovers of cricket perfectionist SRT surely knows about the upcoming exclusive SRT museum in Pune.
Pump into this thread to discuss everything about the little master. His Past, Present and Future...
Sachin Baba Ki Jai Ho:clap:
I accept the fact that he a good cricketer and has contributed a lot to Indian Cricket. But this feeling should not turn into Sachin's Idolatry. Giving a status of GOD to Sachin itself defames the great cricketer. We should keep our reverence to him as a gentleman and a sporting talent of India and not as GOD.
Agreed that Sachin is the modern day DON of world cricket, but why a separate thread for that?

Please stop immortalizing Sachin!

Tendulkar remains, by a distance, the most worshipped cricketer in the world. We should find gods among overselves and not in artistic sculptures. Real God thing is just an insecurity of humans to fight fear and generate hope-- Thats my personal point of view. Sorry if I hurt some1's feelings

Giving some1 a status of sir/father/god does not immortalize or defames him/her. Its just the respect you have. Sachin is a motivating and inspiring character not only on cricketing side, but also on other areas. He is a true inspiration to me and many others and I believe there is nothing wrong in calling him a god.. sorry GOD

Sorry boss, I think I need to search for things in this forum more diligently and cautiously.
Admins, please close the thread. Its really a redundant one. Though I would love to see a thread-name change. My idea was not to rant about SRT.
Cheers
done. :)
closed the old thread and have given a redirect to this thread in old one.
i thought of renaming this thread but then thought that this would be the most neutral name. :)
happy discussing and lets hope for his 100th international ton to occur soon. 😃

Well no one says he is a GOD, all we say is that he is a ''Cricketing God''

ya then dravid also deserves a thread, then some msd fan will say he deserves a thread,a seperate thread for srt?
Then some messi, amstrong, ronaldo, liverpool, barca, united, madrid, schumacher, vettel, amstrong etc. Would need a thread !!

Well, you can start a thread for all the dudes and teams you mentioned, or separate threads, but the point here is - Sachin Tendulkar is an icon like no other, to most Indians. Popular is not equal to iconic. Iconic is about two levels above "very popular". Hope you get the drift.
The guy is a phenomenon to most Indians. Phenomenons get separate coverage. Popular figures may, or may not. Sachin Tendulkar is not just a name anymore in India. It is a brand, a topic, a phenomenon, and even an institution all in itself. It is subjected to wholesome praise and stinging criticism, reams and reams of discussion and debate, and constant media scrutiny.
About the other stars/ teams you mentioned, they are popular no doubt, but iconic only in their own countries/ in other parts of the world. PG is at least 90% full of Indians and in India the icon is Sachin Tendulkar. That said, you can start threads for them if you wish. I am merely explaining the difference between Sachin and the rest, in India.
Even Rahul Dravid. Poor Dravid was indeed unlucky to be born in the era of Sachin Tendulkar. There is no one, not even Dravid, who commands as much attention and hysteria as Sachin Tendulkar. Dravid, himself extremely popular, and a great batsman, is still miles behind Sachin at least on the number of fans index.
It would be more prudent to discuss WHY Sachin Tendulkar, and not Dravid or Laxman or Sehwag or Kumble, are the most popular, in spite of their immense contributions to cricket.

I so wanted Sachin to score his 100th ton against the AUSSIES !!! I hope it comes true
Few unknown facts about Sachin...

Tendulkar's idol is the American Tennis superstar-John McEnore. During his young age, he argued and fought for McEnore with his colony friends who supported Swedish Bjorn Borg. Sachin sported a head-band, sweat-band and a tennis racquet showing his staunch loyalty towards his idol.Once, cooked breakfast at son Arjun's playschool.
Sachin's wife Anjali tends to become nervous while he bats, whereas his brother has become so superstitious that he allows the family members to only watch the match recording.
On pre-mature and early exits, Sachin likes to take out his anger somewhere. He prefers to be left alone, till he cools down.
He visualizes God in his parents. Religion to him is what his parents have
inculcated in him, his upbringing and his way of life. (This is the main concept of sachinism - worship your parents)
