ROTMAN hands down is the winner. Rice as an MBA school is not even close.
While Rice's reputation as an MBA school is debatable within TX, Rotman is extremely reputed in Canada and to an extent in North-east U.S (where the action is 😉 )

I agree with kgkid 100%. I live in Houston but have a Rotman admit. Rotman is a hands down winner. I did not even consider Rice for an MBA. UofTexas(Austin)-McCombs is the best in TX for an MBA.

Rotman is a bigger brand for any kind of MBA when compared to Rice. Finance is hot at Rotman, but they also have big placements/reputation in consulting..... its a no brainer:)

Well all the big American Banks seem to be coming to Rice but not to Rotman and Rice itself seems to be popping up in the Top 10 Finance Schools in the World list by FT....

That is what is confusing me...

American banks/companies rarely recruit from Rotman. Although there are Rotman alumns working in Wall St, the thumb rule esp if you are an international student is, goto a canadian school if you are ok with working in Canada otherwise goto a US school if that is your preferred location.

Regarding FT rankings; I think the IIMs are better than a lot of the schools listed in the top 100..... personally I wouldn't make a decision like Rice v/s Rotman based on the FT rankings

hi guys,

Having gone to UT-Austin and having lived in Texas for 6yrs (I was an intl student!!),
I can also vouch that Rice is far too much of a regional school...great name and reputation, but not many people know of it in terms of a brand name outside of Texas!!!

I like to think of Rotman as INSEAD was 5 or so years ago, not many people heard of it, not even my MBA friends at UT-Austin, but look where INSEAD is today.....i am placing my money on Rotman to hit it big in a the coming years:)

Besides dude, Austin is the only place worth living in Texas.....no offence to our Houston friend here....hehe.....so if you are not considering UT-Austin, go to Toronto!!
More cosmopolitan, better selection of desi girls....hehe...and Canadians are just too damn nice and polite(my experience so far:) )

So another vote for Rotman!!

longhorn

Well it is BS if you know the methodology followed in FT.
I live in TX and I know the reputation of Rice. It is a good university but has a very poor reputation as a b-school.

To make a justified decision, talk to internationals (specifically indians) and see where they went after Rice/ Rotman and where they came from. You will know the drift.

None taken . I agree that Houston is a dull city when compared to Austin and Dallas. I have a Rotman admit and I'm looking forward to make the move to TO 😃

I totally on the brandname part but as I said the only worrying factors seems to be this huge list of American companies that Rice has (and that includes some huge ibanks) , which do not figure out at Rotman.

I am fine with working at Canada but is swapping a Canadian bank/ibank for a BoA, JPMorgan Chase, Morgan Stanley.... a right decision.

You know what! It is upto you. Just a bank name does not mean everything. McKinsey hires at some community colleges but do you know for what positions? Rice is definitely better than a community college but you get the drift, right?

ISB and IIMs would give you way better option than Rice.

How would you look at Georgetown and University of Minnesota (Carlson) as compared to Rotman....

Georgetown has very similar placement statistics to that of Rotman, not sure which wins on the brandname, from what I have heard is that though all the big companies come to Georgetown, the placements there are more placed in the governmental sector where it is hard for Internationals to get in. Do you go with that ?

Respected,

I would like to know if one is employed in his/her business (family business) with your father, then does it counts as a JOB EXPIRENCE.

And if it do counts what all proof one need to have to proof that he has worked in his/her business.
