Reading for the Day!

Dear Aspirants,

We are happy to announce that 28 students from CATKing have converted FMS in the first list, and 29 more are on the waitlist!

Cracking FMS is like cracking IIM A,B,C, so all those how get into FMS have at least one other call from IIM A,B,C until they don’t screw up their verbal score.

Advantages of going to FMS
• Excellent ROI - Reduces individuals’ load as the fees are more diminutive.
• The brand for life.
• Vast alumni network.
• Small Batch strength 226 but highly competitive.

Process of Application

  1. Form to be filled before giving CAT. (This time, FMS opened their forms again, but this is not generally happening every year)
  2. No other factor other than the CAT score was considered at the 1st stage, But the distribution of the marks is-
    40 - verbal
    30 - DILR
    30 - QA
But VARC needs to be good even if there is a low score in marks in QA or DILR.
Tip - Spend two days/per week on developing verbal.
  3. In the 2nd stage, 10th and 12th marks are considered.
    • If above 75 percent in 10th and 12th, then full marks (10)
    • If below 65 percent in 10th and1 2nd, then half marks (05)
  4. Then extempore - weightage being 5% approx. (7-12 minutes)

1966 calls given this time and around 226 seats.
Female candidate- 5 marks plus.
Last year out of 101 general, more than 65 females were there.

Lowest cut-offs for 1st stage shortlist for CAT king students-
SC/ST- 92 PERCENTILE
GENERAL/EWS - 99 PERCENTILE
PWD - 65 PERCENTILE

Don’t reject yourself let the IIM/FMS reject you.

Dear Aspirants!
Here we present to you the Approaches to preparation for the CAT paper.
• Approach 1

  1. Buy two most famous books for CAT prep- Sarvesh k. Verma and/or Arun Sharma.
  2. If too early in CAT preparation - Do NCERT to strengthen your foundation.

• Approach 2

  1. For CATKing students- CATKing bible LOD 1 and LOD 2

Things to keep in mind-
• Keep all your books handy beforehand so that after the prep starts, you don’t have to look for books and/or study material
• Planning from May to November (7 months)

  1. April, May, June -1-2 hours of study. CATKing has classes for only 45 minutes, so 1-hour in-class plus 1 hour of study at home
  2. July, Mid August – 3-hours of study
  3. Rest of August, September, October, and November -more than 5 hours of study are required. Study as much as you can and push yourself.
    Mocks and Analysis-
    • An average student gives more than 20 mocks, so focus on completing and analyzing more than 20 mocks for a good score.
    • CATKing family students try to give around 60 mocks of CATKing themselves provides.
    • Two lakh cat aspirants and not more than 20000 would be there who would have given 20 mocks.
    • Analysis and see how a good percentile scorer solves the mock and selects the questions in that time frame is of utmost importance, so Catking will also organize these sessions with an FMS student.

Hoping you are enjoying the process of learning.

Dear Aspirants!
Here we present to you the Approaches to preparation for the CAT paper.

How to Read Aeon Essays

Aeon Article for Practice: Pivotal mental states

CAT always has one or more philosophical reading comprehensions.
XAT may have more philosophical RC’s than CAT.

  1. When starting with the essay, do read the introductory line
  2. Do read about the author
  3. Go on to read the essay
  4. Find 3-4 words that are MUST in the para summary. These words are the essence of the paragraph. The words shouldn’t be examples used in the paragraph instead they must have meanings that derive the summary of paragraph. Para summaries are not word specific.

Hoping you are enjoying the process of learning.

Hello Aspirants,
Here are 5 most important points to note to kickstart your journey:
1- You need to start with Vedic maths and go along VPAR (Vedic maths, percentages, averages, Ratios))
• people with CATking access: class on Vedic maths 7pm to 8pm every day, CATking bible
• people without the access: NCERT and/or Arun Sharma

Bible of CATking are really amazing books and last yr. there were around 1000 people who got into IIM’s learning from these.

2- Improving Verbal is really necessary

Things to keep in mind:
• Every Monday and Wednesday : Verbal ability classes
• you need to start loving verbal
• verbal has the same weightage as quant

Topics in verbal :
• RC/PJ/PS/Vocab

For people who want to go to FMS: verbal weightage is more than quant
• Verbal - 40 percent
• Quant - 30 percent
• LRDI - 30 percent

Starting:
Number of questions in CAT paper
24 - Verbal ability
22 - Quant
22 - DILR

• Start with reading books, newspapers etc.
• 30 minutes reading from various sources everyday
• Sir will start by doing 2 aeon essays every week then the aspirant has the continue on his own.
• Major source: Aeon essays
• Other sources: Guardian

Way to read aeon essays

  1. After reading a paragraph in Aeon essays you need to make the summary of that paragraph
  2. Keep in mind the 3 words that you won’t forget in the entire journey.

3- Quants
• Arithmetic
• Algebra
• Number Systems
• Modern Maths
• Geometry

How to start your preparation for quants:
• Arithmetic: 50 percent of the maths is arithmetic (around 11 questions)
• Algebra: 3 questions
• Number systems: 3 questions
• Modern maths: 3 questions

±1 1 questions happen every year.

4- DILR

• Out of the 20 questions appearing in 4 sets of 6,4,6,4 questions each, one set would be easy
• If this one set is solved perfectly then you’ll get 80 percentile plus minimum.

5- Consistency is the key
• All set and done nothing is going to happen if you aren’t consistent

Hello Aspirants,

According to sir’s prediction, CAT will be on 27th November, because CAT falls on last sunday of November.
Hence, there are 6 months left only to prepare for CAT.

TIP for CAT
1- To get 90 %, you only have to follow 8-8-8 rule i.e, to get 8 questions right in each section.
The same goes for if you want to get 95%, you need to get 11 questions right in each section, i.e follow 11-11-11 rule and for 99% get 13 questions right in each section.

2-You should have your goals clear in your mind and you should frequently ask yourself why are you preparing for CAT

3- For 6 months: There should be only one goal: CAT

4- Break 6 months into parts: such as 40+40+40+40=160days (approx.)
Complete the entire course in first 40 days and keep increasing your levels by revising again and again in the upcoming iteration

5- Set a goal to get at least 5 questions right in your mocks by August 15. If you reach till here by then you are good to go.

6- By October 30, try to get at least 8 questions right in each section. That means 5 min for each question.

7- By November, push yourself harder to 13 questions right in each section.
After October, don’t let your score go down. No matter how hard the question paper is, your scores should be consistent.

How to get good score:
In May, June and July don’t judge yourself. After August 15, start analyzing yourself. Try to improve your weakness and excel your strengths. By October, give as many mocks as possible and have consistent scores. Give only real cat mocks.

If you can start with 4 questions right in each section. 10 mins for each question right will get you somewhere between 85-90 %.

Don’t judge yourself for first 10 mocks.

Some topics have to be revisited everyday like Logical Reasoning, Data Interpretation, Reading Comprehension These topics alone can get you 36 questions right i.e more than half of the paper.

Start your preparation with Vedic maths, Percentages, Averages and Ratios which is the foundation of DI and Arithmetic for one week.

CAT is a losers Exam.
It is for the ones, who have lost everything and want to have everything and that everything is CAT. Also don’t waste your time.

Magic Formula: We have to do 2 LR question, 2 RC and 2 DI everyday

Hoping you are enjoying the process of learning.
