Guys I need to ask you, how r u going through this book? In a traditional way like doing basics then lod1,2,3 or you have some other strategy?
i am not sacrosanct about going through the concepts from this book i think it is better to complete your basics ( can be from anywhere your coaching classes, other books, mock cats or from the book itself) and then go for the LOD s if you are finding lod 1 too easy start with LOD2 and then go to lod 3 albeit it will be good if you solve lod1 too by skipping questions you feel are too easy since those will be the criterion's to test your basics and tell you whether you need to again revisit your theory part or not.
Following doubts: 1. Que. 1.......the ans will be 9:16 or 9:25... m getting 9:25 2. Que. 7.......detail solution required 3. Que. 19..... detail solution required

The basics given in this book is gud..Arun sharma is for beginners who want to start from scratch. also i found the problems segregated in three levels of difficulty which gives you an edge over other books.

ques 1:-
i hope u got that triangles ABC and ADE are similar ( DE// BC by property of trapezium and ang. A is common).
the ratio of area of similar triangles = square of the ratio of their sides area ADE/ area ABC = (3/5)^2 =9/25 but we are asked to find the ratio of triangle ADE and trapezium BCED
let area of tri. ADE= 9x therefore area of ABC=25x so area of trapezium BCED= 25x-9x =16x
therefore area of triangle ADE : area of trapezium BCED = 9:16
a can do a piece of work in 18days and B in 9 days and C in 6days.A and B start working together and after 2 days c join them.in how many days will the job be completed??
a can do a piece of work in 18days and B in 9 days and C in 6days.A and B start working together and after 2 days c join them.in how many days will the job be completed??
plz give the proper solution
Let the work done be of 180 units (Choose any no. which can be divisible by 18, 9 and 6). Thus, A alone can do 10 units/day, B can do 20 units/day and C can do 30 units/day.
Thus, for first 2 days, A and B work = 2*(10+20) = 60 units
Remaining 120 units of work..... to be done by all three. Thus, no. of days = 120/(10+20+30) = 2 days
Its been about a month now that I have started preparing for CAT 2009. I have had earlier 3 attempts without much success. This time, I am very serious, and sincerely want to perform good in the exam. One of my main concerns is Maths. I would say that I am good in Maths, still there is something missing due to which I am unable to solve the questions in the paper. Would Arun Sharma book be of help to once revise all the concepts, do a lot pf practice, and then attempt a paper?
Yes it is. pls explain ur approach to the question
i tried by taking the roots as 1 and 2. the eqn will be (x - 1) (x - 2) = x^2 - 3X + 2 = 0 here a = 1. which doesnt fit into the given ranges...hence option 3

Thanks, Mohit.
Hello mohit, I personally would suggest you to go thru Arun sharma once. If you are able to complete the basics and Mainly LOD 1 and 2. then you have pretty good chances of clearing the cutoffs. But you have to practice and revise more often to retain the concepts, its easy to learn the concepts but the main challenge comes when you gotta retain it. So Maths is all abt practice. In pagalguy forum you can participate actively to know different angles on a particular concept.Coming to your second question which is wether you shud finish of the whole book and then attempt a paper. Dnt do that!! once you finish a topic try to hunt for questions on those topic u have covered here in this forum and try to do it. this way you'll retain most of the concepts witout much of revision. All the best:)
PLEASE ANSWER THIS its on page 100 ques-36-39 of arun sharma
