If a man saves Rs1000 each year and invests at the end of the year at 5% compound interest , how much will the amount be at the end of 15 years.?

Total amount after 15 years = 1000*(105/100)^14 + 1000*(105/100)^13 + ... + 1000

=>1000*[(21/20)^15 -1]*20

50^51^52 divided by 11 what will be the remainder?

I have seen people taking many shortcuts for this type of questions like : -

50^51^52 mod 11.
E(11) = 10.
=> 51^52 mod 10 = 1.
=> 50 mod 11 = 6.

I can reach to the answer by a pretty tedious method that is finding a remainder of 50^51 and then raising it to the power 52 to find the answer. Any1 please help??

@[594625:crazy4pagal] 1st step:divide 50 by11 remainder=6
so now we should find the remainder of 6^51^52
2nd step:get the power of 6 such that the number obtained when divisble by11 gives 1 as remainder.6^10 gives 1 as remainder.
3rd step:now divide 51^52 by 10 remainder =1 . => 51^52=10k+1
now we rewrite 6^51^52 =6^(10k+1) => 6^10k.6
when 6^10k.6 divided by 11 gives remainder 6(since 6^10 /11 gives 1 as remainder).
i hope this would help u....:)

@[451379:tanuja91] thanx !! however, there's this chinese remainder theorem i just had a look at. It seems like simplifying further. Have a look!! http://onwardtoiim.blogspot.in/2008/06/coprimes-eulers-number-and-fermats.html

q)Arun sharma (averages).

Three group of companies :Tata ,Birla and Reliance announce the average of annual profits of all years since their establishment.

The average profit of Tata is Rs 75,000 lakh
The average profit of Birla is Rs 64,000 lakh
The average profit of Reliance is Rs 73,000 lakh

The average profit of all results of Tata and Birla together is 70,000 lakh
The average profit of all results of Reliance and Birla together is 69,000 lakh
Approx wat is the average of all three group of companies.

Options : 70800 lakh or 71086 lakh or 70666 lakh or cant be determined

@[595040:rahulj_j44]

Let the number of years for which Tata, Birla and Reliance have been there are T, B and R.

So,

75T + 64B = 70(T+B)..................(1)

5T = 6 B

5T/6 = B ..................(1)

Also, 64B + 73R = 69(B+R)

4R = 5B

4R/5 = B ...........(2)

From (1) and (2)

5T/6 = B = 4R/5 = k (let)

Therefore, T= 6k/5 , B=k, R = 5R/4

The combined average of all 3 cos. = 75T+64B+73R/(T+B+R)

Substitutin the values of T, B and R in terms of k

90+64+91.25/(1.2+1+1.25) = 71.09 ~ 71086 lakh

Is this the correct answer?

if the perimeter of rectangle and a square each is equal to 80 cm and diff of their areas is 100 sq cm, the sides of rectangle are :

soln

2(l +b)=4a=80

l+b=40 a =20 a^2=400

a^2 -lb=100 lb=300

(l - b)^2 = (l + b)^2 - 4lb (HOW DIS STEP ARISE , PLS tell me)
.
.
.

l-b = 20

solving two equations we get l n b as 30 n 10.......

@[588683:jeetuachtani]

u have the value of (l+b) as 40.

To find the indvidual values of l and b, u need another equation as (l-b) so u can solve this and the prev eqn together.

any of (l+b) or (l-b) can be expressed in the form of another if u have the value of one of them and lb.

(l+b)^2 = l^2+b^2+2lb = l^2+b^2+2lb +2lb-2lb (add subtract 2lb) = l^2-2lb+b^2 + 4lb = (l-b)^2+4lb

Similarly,

(l-b)^2=l^2+b^2-2lb = l^2+b^2-2lb+2lb-2lb(add subtract 2lb)=l^2+2lb+b^2-4lb=(l+b)^2-4lb

Q1 1/1 + 1/3 +1/10 + 1/15
= 1+ 1/(2^2-1) + 1/(3^2+1) + 1/(4^2-1)
now confused how to break this term
I am able to solve 1+ 1/3 + 1/15
= 1 + 1/2 as 1+1/2 [1-1/3+ 1/3 -1/5+ 1/7........]= 1.5
so series reduces to 1.5 + 1/10 + 1/26 + 1/50 which I approximately to 0 .2 max
so 1.7 but not in option.
so I am confused what to do next ??????

Block One-Review Test 2:

1. ABC is a three-digit number in which A>0. The value of ABC is equal to the sum of the factorials of its three digits. What is the value of B?
(a) 9 (b) 7 (c) 4 (d) 2

Block One-Review Test 1:

2. A young girl counted in the following way on the fingers of her left hand. She started calling the thumb 1, the index finger 2, middle finger 3, ring finger 4, , little finger 5, then reversed direction, calling ring finger 6, middle finger 7, first finger 8, thumb 9, then back to the index finger for 10, middle finger for 11, and so on. She counted up to 1994. She ended on her:
(a) thumb (b) index finger (c) middle finger (d) ring finger

I know that the answer to 2. cannot be (a) or (c) because on those fingers, we get odd numbers, but don't know the logic behind the index finger and ring finger.

answer of 1st one is 145
1!+4!+5!=145

reason
above 7 all factorial will be of 4digits

6 factorial gives 720...hence that number should contain 7...but that is not possible

so now only 5 numbers remaining and than by hit and trail you will get your answer

For Q.3, we need to find the Sum of 20 terms...
S20=20/2 [2*60 + (20-1)*3]...the common difference here is 3.
Ans.1770

For Q.2, I approached it in a very primitive way
Every time, the ball falls to the ground and rises to 4/5th of the height. Hence it travels 9/5(1+4/5) every time. So we get the first term as (9/5)(120). Next time it travels, (9/5)(96) (96 is 4/5th of 120). From this we know that the common ratio r is 96/120=4/5.

(PS: I don't know if we could have directly taken the common ratio as 4/5 from the question. If so, please provide your inputs.)

Now this is an infinite GP decreasing series. Therefore, Sum = a/(1-r) where a is the first term and r is the common ratio. a =9/5*120=216...Hence, answer is 216/(1-4/5)=1080.
Ans.1080

I don't know how to solve Q.1.

@[547209:kittu12]:for the q on number of people clearing CAT i.e Last year, there were 3 sections in the Catalyst, a mock CAT paper. Out of them 33 students cleared the cut-off in Section 1, 34 students cleared the cut-off in section2 and 32 in section 3.10 cleared in section 1 and section 2.9 cleared the cut-off in Section 2 and Section 3, 8 cleared the cutoff in Section 1 and Section 3.the number of people who cleared each section alone was equal and was 21 for each section.

i got the answer for people clearing all three to be 6!!
all three-6
sec1 n 2 alone-4
sec2 n 3 alone -3
sec3 n sec1 alone- 2
each sec alone -21
is the answer for all three really 3 and not 6??
