Ans1)

Second, Can u help me get an ebook of Arun Sharma Quant/DI..!!!

Ans1) CP= (11-3+1.2)*12000= 9.2*12000=110400
earning from adv'= 255 per adv'
min no. of adv' needed to break even= 110400/255= this value should be equal to nearest integer value >= quotient.

Ans 2) total earning= 110400*(4/5)=88320
as the newspaper house recovered only 80% of the cost.
min bookings needed= 88320/255= ans.

short trick: this value should be less than Ans1 as we need to achieve only 80% booking target. only 1 option.

Now I have two questions.First, how can 80% target be greater than 100%..?? either u missed to mention something abt question or the answer is wrong. The value would actually be 348 & I marked the nearest answer.
Second, Can u help me get an ebook of Arun Sharma Quant/DI..!!!

Thanks for resolving this ...i had some weird sense of the break even point due to which i could not get the right answer .....for the second question the answer as given in the book is option c but i guess it is wrong as what you have suggested is completely logical 😃

hi 😃 your approach is correct !! just see (87*1/6*273)/14 = 282.75 ,,, but m unable to understand y to divide by 14 .. when we are calculating per month basis !!
aS FOR the 38th question, he says both avg income and avg expenditure has to be calculated according to 12yr// so here we do not know E.... in 39th , since its constant it is eliminated !!
pl post asap (anyone?) if it strikes you--- WHY DIVIDE BY 14 ????????

cheers

I am stuck with the below caselet of averages:

In the island of Hoola Boola Moola , inhabitants have a strang process of calculating their average incomes and expenditures. According to an old legend prevalent on that island. the average monthly income had to be calculated on the basis of 14 months in a calendar year while the average monthly expenditure was to be calculated on the basis of 9 months per year. This would lead to people having an underestimation of their saving since there would be an underestimation of the income and overestimation of their expenditure per month.

Qstn) Mr. Boogie Woogle comes back from the USSR and convinces his community comprising 273 families to start calculating the average incomeon on the basis of 12 months per calendar year. Now if it is known that the average estimated income in his community is(according to the old system) 87 Moolahs per month(Moolah - official currency of Hoola Boola Moola). Then what will be the change in the average estimated savings for the island of Hoola Boola Moola. (Assume that there is no other change).

a) 251.60 Moolahs b) 282.75 Moolahs c) 312.75 Moolahs d) Cannot be determined

My dbt here is that we do not know the expenditure here. Assuming that is constant:
E = expenditure per month
Savings/mnth= 87-E (Before cuming of Mr Boogie )
Savings/mnth(new) = 87*14/12-E

change in savings = 87*14/12 - 87
=87*1/6

considering the whole community size as only 273 .. the ans shud be 87*1/6*273 = 3958.5(not in any option)

I am unable to get any other way to solve it. help

this is the solution for the sum where the min marks and max marks are given for subjects and the total percent is 60 . a+b+c+d=150(60 % of 250) the maximum value a,b,c can take is 50 and d can take a maximum value of 100. 153c3-(3*103c3)-53c3. this sum can be handled in a similar fashion as that of 4 dice whose sum is 10 .(sum iin the sense sum of the values in the dice).

hey how did u come up with the 153 and 53 figures. Could you elaborate on the solution a little more. Thanks in advance

Hi can anybody solve this one ..i could not find the solution to this one anywhere :

Mr X,a very industrious person ,wants to establish his own unit. For this he needs an instant loan of Rs 5,00,000 and, every five years he requires an additional loan of Rs. 100,000.If he had to clear all his outstandings in 20 yrs,and he repays the principal of the first loan equally over the 20 yrs, find what amount he would have to pay as interest on his initial borrowing if the rate of interest is 10% p.a. simple interest ??
a) 560000 b) 540000 c) 525000 d) 500000 e) None of these
Answer is : 5,25,000
Please also post the approach for arriving at the solution....

Anyone please solve this .....i m very eager to get the solution to this one ...

conceptually i can arrive at the solution by following method..

he pays equal amount of principal over 20 years..so each year he will pay 25000...for the 1st year he pays 50000 as interest on 5L..then at the end of the year he repays 25000 so he pays interest of rs 47500 in 2nd year on left prinicpal amout..(500000-25000)...similarily all interest amt can be cal....
at the end of 3rd year......45000
..4th year ....... 42500
5th year 40000
20th year.....................2500

so total interest is rs 525000...

needless to say this is a long method and not usable for comp exams....hope somebody post the shortcut!!

A man has placed 50 mangoes in a row such that the distance between the 1st and 2nd mango is 1 yard, the distance between 2nd and 3rd is 3 yards and the distance between 3rd and 4th is 5 yard.A basket is then placed in front of the 1st mango and he has to carry each mango to the basket. If he starts from the 1st mango ,then what is the total distane(in yards )that he has to cover.
a)80850 b)80890 c)80900........kindly show d entire process.

A tank of 425 litres capacity has been filled with water through two pipes, the first pipe having been opened 5hrs longer than the second. If the first pipe were open as long as the second, and the second pipe was open as long as the first pipe was open, the the first pipe would deliver half the amount of water delivered by the second pipe; if the two pipes were open simultaneously, the tank would be filled up in 17 hrs, How long was the second pipe open?

a)10hrs
b)12 hrs
c)15hrs
d)18hrs

pls post your approach

Hi I am not able to get this question 1st line, mentioned in BOLD.

Is it mean they take x, x+5 hours to fill the tank fully seprately or simultaneously?
2nd line states hours are exchanged.
than 3rd line say when they simlutaneously open for 17 hours. 2nd pipe which is less than 5 hourse opened ..

So answer goes to 12 hours..
A big big confusion... Can you share your understanding of the question also,........

Thanks
Ashish

to me i didn't understand the 2nd line..

.last line says that if both the pipes are opened simultaneously then tank will be filled in 17hrs but there is a condition given in first line that when second pipe is opened for x hrs and first pipe is opened for x+5 hrs then how much time it would take to fill the tank to its capacity...along with the condition given in 2nd line

i hope i am somewhat explicable

Here goes My explanation::
to carry first mango distance covered is 0
to cover 2nd mango distance covered is 2.1=2.1^2
to cover 3rd mango distance covered is 2.(3+1)=2.2^2
to cover 4th mango distance covered is 2.(5+3+1)=2.3^2
to cover 5th mango distance covered is 2.(7+5+3+1)=2.4^2

to cover 50th mango distance covered is 2((2n-3)+(2n-5)+.....3+1) 2.49^2
or sum of odd number is given bye n^2

total distance covered = 2(1^2+ 2^2 + 3^2 +..... 49^2)
2{(n)(n+1)(2n+1)}/6 with n=49
which comes as =80850

could you please xplain the logic a bit more...didnt understand h ebold part
also when we have already added (1+3+5...) to calculate distance till a particular mango why do we need to add the previous distances as in we add 1 thhen we again add 1+3 and for 3rd we again add 1+3+5..

in a nut shell i didnt get anyhthing...:banghead:

u hav got the right answer, now pls do show the entire process.

What is the highest power of 54 that divides 31! exactly?
a)4 b)7 c)9....pls show d entire process.
