Hello Puys,
Below is problem from Number System LOD II - Problem Number 11
Problem
xy is a number that is multiplied by ab and the result comes as pqr, where
r = 2y ,
q = 2(x+y)
and
p = 2x
where x,y
then value of ab may be
A - 11
B - 13
C - 31
D - 22
E - Non of These
The answer provided is D, with hint as the value of b has to be 2 since, r= 2y
Will any one help me out how to solve this problem?

I am sorry, corrected the problem statement...

Problem statement corrected. I am sorry for misleading statement...

Yup..thought so!!

Anyways.

Just look at the last digits of the question i.e. y and b

y multiplied by b would give r and it is given that y is less than 5 and r is twice of y, hence b has to be less than 5, in fact

if yXb=r such that r=2y then b has to be 2

compare this with options and the first 3 options get cancelled out.

Check the 4th option with conditions and it satisfies all the conditions, hence that is the answer.

Check the 4th option with conditions and it satisfies all the conditions, hence that is the answer.

th number might well turn out to be 32 and as e) None of These is an option we cant directly conclude.
Another way is use the answer. as rightly said 2 has to be the unit place digit. So use 22 and perform a check. Given that xy is multiplied by ab (22) to get pqr.
=> 22*(10x+y) = 220x + 22 y = 200x+20x+20y+2y = 100*2x+10*2(x+y)+2*y
= 100*p+10*q+r

thus we get r = 2y, q = 2(x+y) and p = 2x
Hence we can conclude ans is 22.

Just a request guys. Do not give answers in the question itself. The mind starts working in that direction

This problem from the permutation and combination chapter ( LOD -III) of Arun Sharma:

A dices is rolled six times. One, two, three, four, five and six appears on consecutive throws of dices. How many ways are possible of having 1 before 6?

Please help ! Explanatory solution would be really appreciated!

first select two positions for 1 and 6. This is done in 6c2 ways. Now u can arrange 1 and 6 in 1 way

the remaining 4 nos can be arranged in 4!ways...
=>6c2x4!=360

A dealer offers a cash discount of 20% n still makes a profit of 20% , when he further allows 160 articles when the customer buys 120.how much present above the cost price were his wares listed?

Although not getting the answer but pls tell me where i am appraoching wrong.

Let C.P C/article
M.P M/article
customer comes to but 120 articles.
so initial s.p =120m
but discount of 20% so discounted s.p=96m
Now for dealer as he also gives 160 additional items whwn customer buys 120.
so for dealer c.p=120c+160c=280c

Thus we have dsp=96m
cp=280c
and profit 20%
thus 7c=2m which means 250% above the cost price.
But where is the flaw in above reasoning.
Help me to find the answer.

a. 100% b.80% c. 75% d.66(2/3)%

he is giving 40 articles free for 120 articles...

so lets assume cost price/article as 10, so cp of 120 articles is 1200...for 160 articles 1600

But after selling 40 articles extra still he makes a 20%profit...
1600x20%=320...
=>1920 which is got after 20% discount he offers..so increase by 25%
=>1920/4=>480
=>1920+480
=>2400

means he is giving away 120 articlea at a price 2400 rs coating his price as 20/article where it originally costs 10rs..
hence100% profit...

can any one tell me how to search a ques in this forum,,,,i have a doubt in P & c
so i just wanna check whether it is already solved

Hi,
What is the right approach for the following question?
find all numbers of the form 517X7 (X is a no in between) that are divisible by 89?
Thanks!

arun sharma Q8(LOD 2) P & C

Q 7 from 4 gentlmn and 4 ladies a committee of 5 is to be formed.Find no. of ways of doing so if the committee consits of a president,vice presdnt and 3 secretaries..

Q8 In the above question,,what will be the number of ways of selecting the committee with atleast 3 women such that atleast one women holds the post of either a presidnt or vice -presdnt.

Hi,

See in this case there is no such number X(0 to 9).
In this case 89 being prime no .we have to follow simple division method.after single division we have divisor of form 72X and 89*8=712.thus remainders would be 8,9,........,17.And now taking last digit 7 into divisor also we can't obtain an integer question.
These type of questions basically involve divisibility rules and that too of 3,11,4,8,6.
Thus by memorizing all the divisibility rules one can easily solve such questions.

a)in each case we can have women president or vice president
case1-3women2men
p-vp-s1-s2-s3
w1w2w3m1m2
w1m1w2w3m2
m1w1w2w3m2
=>4x3x2x4C2
=>4x4x3c2x3
=>4x4x3c2x3
add all three to get 432
case2-4women1men
p-vp-s1-s2-s3
w1w2w3w4m1
w1m1w2w3w4
m1w1w2w3w4
=>4x3x2c2x4
=>4x4x1
=>4x4x1
=>80
so total combination=> 432+80=512

b)
case1-1women and 4 men
p-vp-s1-s2-s3
w1m1m2m3m4
m1w1m2m3m4
m1m2w1m3m4
=>4x3x3C3
=>4x4x3c3

=>16+16+48=80
case2-2women and 3men

w1m1w2m2m3
m1w2w3m2m3
m1m2w1w2m3
=>4x4x3x3c2
=>4x4x3x3C2

=>144+144+144=432

so total combination=>80+432=512
