A man buys spirit at Rs 60/litre,adds water to it and then sells it at Rs75/litre.what is the ratio of spirit to water if his profit in the deal is 37.5%
1)9:1
2)10:1
3)11:1
4)none
Please provide detail solution.

The answer should be 10:1 (option 2).

Since by selling the mixture at Rs. 75, he gains 37.5%, his cost of the mixture is = 75/1.375 = 54.55

Checking by options, if we use 10:1, the cost per unit comes out to be = (10*60 + 1*0)/11 = 600/11 = 54.55

Thus, option 2 is the answer.

a)36sec b) 45s c)27s d)none

1. Going by the options, answer is (b), 15%.

Earning Rs. 700 from Rs. 4000: 15% on 2000 = 300
y% on (4000-2000) = (700-300). Thus, y = 20%

Earning Rs. 900 from Rs. 5000: 15% on 2000 = 300
20% on (5000-2000) = 600.

Hence proved 😃 This can be done algebraically too, but it's easier to work through the options in this case.

2. Speed of express train = 80 x 5/18 = 200/9 m/sec
Of goods train = 40 x 5/18 = 100/9 m/sec

Thus, distance covered in 54 sec = (200/9-100/9) x 54 = 600 m

Since the goods train is twice the length of the express train,
Length of express train = 200 m
Of goods train = 400 m

Thus, for the express train to cross a station of 400 m length, it needs to cover a total of 400+200 = 600 m, which can be don in 600/(200/9) = 27 sec. Hence, answer is (c).

1. Am not the person to work on questions of probability :|

2. Working with options again, we find that the answer is option (a), 100%.

Let price of article be Rs. 100, then 100% above would mean that it's listed at Rs. 200. Now, 20% discount on Rs. 200 = Rs. 160.

Since 16 pieces are given at the price of 12 pieces, or just simplifying, 4 pieces are given at the price of 3 pieces, thus, price of 4 pieces = 160 x 3 = Rs. 480, i.e. per piece price of 480/4 = 120

Thus, the shopkeeper gets Rs. 120 per piece for a cost of Rs. 100, thus 20% profit 😃

i bought 10 pens ,14 pencils,4 erasers. my frend bought 12 pens, 28 pencils, 8 erasers. He paid half more than what i paid.
How much percentage of my amount i paid corresponds to pens?

i bought 10 pens ,14 pencils,4 erasers. my frend bought 12 pens, 28 pencils, 8 erasers. He paid half more than what i paid.
How much percentage of my amount i paid corresponds to pens?

1st equation:
10P + 14p + 4E = 160 (can assume any value, I assumed total as 160)

2nd equation:
12P + 28p + 8E = 240 (160 x 1.5 = 240)

1st x 2 = 20P + 28p + 8E = 320

Subtracting 2nd from this equation,

8P = 80
P = 10

Thus, putting in the 1st equation, the cost of pens is 10P = 10 x 10 = 100

Thus, %age is 100/160 = 62.5 %

Hope you understood.

How to solve question like 5 100 and 2 200 which is greatest?

I guess its 5^100 and 2^2000

Soln : 2^200 can be re-written as 2^100 * 2^100 ie. 4^100

Now comparing 4^100 and 5^1000 , we get 5^100 as the greatest.

Logic used : Try to euqate the exponents as same (here,100) by changing the base number so that comparison can be made easily .

answer: 1) 500

Soln : N(A U B) = N(A) + N(B) - N(A ^ B) ^ stands for intersection here
100 - 15 = 80 + 70 - N(A ^ B) (as 15 failed in both)
N(A ^ B) = 35

Since , 100 - 35 = 65% student passed ie. 325

65% corresponds to 325
100% corresponds to 500

Answer is 1) 500
