Hi pals
Basically a B.com graduate did diploma in graphic designing after graduation and since then i am working as a graphic designer and have just left the job last month after 4 years of experience.
I am seriously thinking to switch my career path because i didnot get the expected growth(both in terms of profile and in terms of salary) as a graphic designer in 4 years.
So can anybody tell me what will be the right option for me.
One of my friend told me to go for GMAT.
Is job is mandatory while applying in any B School after GMAT score.
As i was a average student in my academics......have got 50% in 10th, 56% in 12th and B.com respectively...
So What should be my target score and target colleges.
Thanks in advance.
Hi All,
I am in a fix. I wanted to do MBA from the very first day i joined +2 after 10th. At that time i was not that sure why exactly i wanted to do MBA, i guess it was may be because of the pure 'noise-value'(u c MBA sounds kool). But then i realised i am type of guy who want to work with people see things move take decision see the outcome struggle fight for results get dissappointed get appreciation make growth. So after +2 i joined BBA but as destiny wud have it my BBA never took off i ended up after 4 years as a BTech. In these 4 years i have done engineering, event management, entertainment, BPO US Voice Process and two half hearted attempts at CAT once i even i managed to score 82+. Now I am working for an MNC as a Software Engineer earing much much more than i did in these 4 years but still i dont feel a 'Techie' from heart. I dont feel the urge to come to office even after 10 months now. I used to earn peanuts as compared to my present salary but i used to look forward to my time at work. I wanna pursue MBA. Becoz i blive it only can fulfill my calling. Anybody is similar situation?? Please suggest..how to go about it??? What amount of minimum experience I need to have before planning to move out from my present job.
Friends
I would like to know what is the average salary offered to FULL-TIME & Part-time Faculty members in CAT coaching institutes like TIME or IMS.
Thanks.

Technically, the minimum experience required is zero. But as you have experience across diverse fields of work, it could be appreciated by the panel. I would suggest you take up preparation of MBA entrance tests along with your job as soon as you can.
HI all,
I have been working in a top Indian IT firm as a developer for 15 months. I am not too satisfied with the job and dont think i can continue doing it for more than 2 years and have plans to do MBA. A month back I, alongwith 3 of my friends started a partnership trading firm and it is taking off well. I am planning to leave my current job and pursue our venture full-time. Please suggest me if it would be a wise idea. The 2 reasons i am sticking with the job are the constant income and experience. If I leave the job, will my stint with the venture be considered as experience? and what proof should i show to prove it since we dont have a concept of giving out experience certis or fixed salaries.

Buddy,
Expenses incurred and the average package is not the criteria to judge long term benefits of any B-School!
Few of the parameters which can be used to have a slight idea of long term benefits are : alums of respective b-schools in industry, their career growth, peer group in college as it helps in building your traits which helps in long run, diversity in profiles being offered , faculty in the college and the industry exposure you get in the respective college.
PS: If you want to make package as the major criteria, then go for median package of the colleges and not the average package :)
Hope this helps

Hello seniors...look at my case too
I passed my B.Tech from a decent engineering clg in 2010..landed up in a pvt core company...i didn't take IT jobs because i had heard that Core jobs are better as fas as experience matters for MBA..but the nature of job i found there made me hate my job and i finally quit the job in january..So here i am now jobless...want to make my career in Finance sector and preparing for MBA but as MBA exams would be in nov...so what would u suggest me to do in this period as i will have to explain about this gap in MBA clg interviews..please help out...should i try for some IT jobs or should enroll myself in CFA l1 dec exam and prepare for MBA entrance as well as 4 CFA xams...
if possible plz suggest some certification course in due period...i m totally confused now....to make my situation worse,i m nt in any big metro cities where i can some job easily.....
Hi All,
I am also facing a dilemna.I have done my B-Tech in CSE.I am working in the IT industry for almost 6 yrs.I would say i have achieved a fair bit here in terms of fame and recognizition.
I love my job too and the type of work what i am doing.I have been doing full hard core technical things.
Now my dilemna is what to do next.I had been an MBA aspirant in the initial days even gave CAT once but not very encouraging results.Due to time and other factors i could not pursure my CAT aspirations.
Now i think i dont have much option for a full time MBA, that leaves me with two options
(a) Pursuing executive MBA and be with my present employers.
(b) Improving my technical skills by passing certifications, trainings even executive M-Tech.
I would appreciate if i could be given some pointers here.
Cheers

Buddy...no need to complicate situations so early in your career.
You have done the first thing right by deciding where you really want to make your career which is Finance. I hope your interest in Finance is not due to the Handsome Salaries people in the Finance industry get & the Hi-society & glamorous lifestyle they lead. Make no mistake in going by what you see. The salaries & other luxuries can also be achieved by an engineer working in core engineering sector. However as you have written, you hated your job profile...!!...I would like to tell you that judging your job profile in the first 6 months of your professional career is not a wise thing to do. The freshers are made to go through the rigorous, hard training in which they are asked to do all kinds of mundane jobs esp in core engineering companies (I am presuming you are a non-IT engineer). But those tough times really broadens the wisdom of a person & also toughens him. Ok....This Gyan was intended to give you an indication that you may have hated your first job but its not a guarantee either that you will not hate your 2nd Job too (in IT co.) if you happen to get yourself a job. Its all in the mind.
If you have keen interest in numbers, statistics, analysis & research, then finance is surely your area. For a non-IIT engineer to make a career in Finance is a little tough but not impossible. The best possible way would be to go for MBA-finance. You are now out-of-work, so make the most of your spare time to prepare hard for CAT & other entrances. The only concern is the motivation factor. You have to remain motivated throughout because there would be times when you would feel you are not going anywhere. Its a thankless exercise to prepare for CAT. Many have put their blood & sweat & still not been able to achieve what they desired. So donot let your focus divert one bit from your goal.
Certifications do add value but they will be more valuable when you are working. CFA level 1 is of not much use these days. One has to complete all 3 levels to derive any benefit & preparing for CFA demands separate preparation altogether. Going for NCFM certifications would be useful but only during the MBA interviews when you would be asked to explain the reason of leaving your job.
So, try to analyse your strengths & weaknesses & have realistic targets & not over-ambitious targets. Remain motivated to achieve your goal. You will surely then come out a winner...All the Best..:cheerio::cheerio:
@ Puys plz help me out....
I have nearly 2 years of work ex in Finance and Accounts. What
dilemma I am facing is whether to go for Full Time MBA or go
for executive programs from Tier I Institutes?
Basically I have calls from BIMTECH, IBS - HYD, IFMR and
University of Calcutta (MBA in Finance) and have applied
to an executive program of a Tier I institute.
My question to you guys is which one should I opt?
Considering that executive program would not be a degree and
an MBA from these insti will be a degree but I may have to
start from initial positions only.
I am a bit tensed and not able to take any decision.
Please help puys....
Puys anyone with valuable suggestions...please pour in ur views.
Really Looking forward for It.

Its great that you love your current work profile...:cheerio::cheerio:.
Considering that you are not too keen on doing a full time MBA at this stage of your career, it would boost your already glittering resume greatly if you finish your MBA through Distance Learning. there are many good institutes & Universities offering Executive MBA/ Part-time MBA through distance learning like IMT Ghz, Symbiosis, NMIMS, IGNOU, & IIFT, XLRI, IIM (through tie-ups with Hughes & NIIT). Check out this thread for useful info & also check out the websites of the respective institutes.

You can also go for M.Tech if you just want to add on to your technical qualification instead of a management degree. There's very popular MS through distance learning provided by reputed BITS Pilani. you can check out that.
Out of both, what exactly you should go for, depends entirely on what you think about both. If just for the heck of it, you want to do something & add on to your resume, then why not do both one by one or even simultaneously if you can..

. Its difficult to gauge the benefits of doing an MBA or doing an M.Tech by distance learning for person like you who has over 6 years experience. AFAIK, either of them would add same value to your profile but I am slightly inclined to favour an MBA as you already are a technically well equipped engineer. All the Best...:cheerio::cheerio:

I don't see any problem here. You are not that old to get worried :lookround:
GLakes offers 1 year MBA and so do other EMBA at IIMs and XL. The point is you ll need one more year to prepare for them. So you have to weigh the pro and cons. Even Glakes is a well known college for 1 year MBA.
Also as u are completely dissatisfied with your current work profile there ll be problems in continuing working here. I ll suggest you to join GLakes. It ll definitely add value to your current profile and ll help u in long run.
But the final decision is with you only. All the best
I want to go in the technical field after btech and people are going for mba as i saw. What can i do please help me??? I am in final sem of my btech CSE

choice is yours u can go for m.tech or ms from good colleges like iisc, iit's. This is even a lucrative option . You need to give gate for india and gre for foreign.
I saw that mtech is not a good option as its like a btech standard. My friend is working for infosys and he told me that mtech and btech students are working in a same batch. That's why people go for ms from abroad. Can you help me more on this topic..
